Clinical or Counseling Psychologist - Family Therapy Program

Make a lasting difference in the lives of couples and families by providing evidence-based, empathetic psychological care in a collaborative setting. Brown University Health (Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, and Newport Hospital - affiliated hospitals of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University) is seeking a clinical or counseling psychologist to join our Family Therapy Program to support couples and families of any size and constellation toward healthier relationships and emotional well-being. The licensed psychologist will provide multidimensional evaluations and treatments using the McMaster Model, a comprehensive problem-centered method supported by over 40 years of research. Prior experience in couples or family therapy is required- supplemental training in the McMaster Model is provided. Involvement in our ongoing research program may be possible, along with involvement in the training of psychology or psychiatry residents or fellows affiliated with the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. A clinical faculty appointment may be available for a candidate who meets the criteria.


About You:

• PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program required [TR1] [FJ2] [GA3] [KM4]
• Clinical internship from an APA-accredited program required
• Licensed or license-eligible in Rhode Island (includes completion of postdoctoral fellowship)
• Prior training in couples or family therapy required
• Desire to work in a team-based care model and collaborate with other providers
• Drawn to a diverse patient population and range of clinical presentations
• Interest in academic teaching and working in an academic medical center

Job Details:

• 100% outpatient setting w orking with couples and families
• M-F schedule, 40 hours per week (30 hours clinical, 10 hours administrative)

[TR1] Do we want someone who has experience and/or training in couples and/or family therapy or are we open to working with someone who is new to this but open to being trained in this model? Would we want to make our expectations of this explicit either way, or do we prefer to keep it open ended?


[FJ2] I agree- I think we would want someone with prior couples or family training.


[GA3] Good addition. I think otherwise this looks good. My only thought is do we want to be recruiting a candidate with research experience and desire to have that be part of their role?


[KM4] I agree with Alison that we should highlight the desirability of research experience /interest in the candidate. Otherwise looks good to me.
