Senior Unified Communications Engineer

System Engineer Principal The Sr. Unified Communication (UC) Communications Field Engineer is the network/WAN/Cloud interface for all other team members, assisting all UC efforts that interoperate across the WAN. This position is also the principal interface with security, database, and application operations, engineering and implementation services in direct support of all UC functions, ensuring all policies, processes, and security protections are complied with. This position works in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing, collaborative environment and requires strong troubleshooting, analytical skills, critical thinking, complex problem‑solving, and sound judgment and decision‑making. Roles and Responsibilities Provide expert level support for the implementation, deployment and engineering of UC services. Work on issues related to performance management, implementation engineering, fault isolation, and troubleshooting UC systems that traverse the WAN/Cloud/Managed Services. Troubleshoot UC solutions—including Avaya Aura and One‑X platforms, Polycom VTC, Cisco VTC, Webex Meetings, Teams, Cisco Routing and Switching, Cisco Firewalls, and Cisco UC systems (Call Manager, Meeting Server, TMS and Expressways)—that interoperate across a WAN and Cloud environment. Create firewall/ACL rule requests for system changes, implementations and deployments. Manage and provide direction to other Field Engineers supporting various customer regions, including local field site engineers. Document UC systems and required services in Word, PDF, and Visio formats. Provide WAN/Cloud subject‑matter expertise and interface with all engineering teams to facilitate implementation, operations, maintenance and enhancement of Unified Communications services. Develop and maintain comprehensive technical artifacts pertaining to the implementation, engineering, and optimization of enterprise UC services. Communicate proactively and effectively with customers. Required Education, Experience, and Skills Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, related field, or equivalent with 10 years of related experience; or Master’s degree with 8 years of related experience, or equivalent. Expertise and troubleshooting experience with Avaya Aura and One‑X, Polycom VTC, Cisco VTC, Webex Meetings, Teams, Cisco Routing and Switching, Cisco Firewalls, and Cisco UC systems (Call Manager, Meeting Server, TMS, Expressways) that interoperate across WAN and Cloud. Experience in UC areas such as Instant Messaging (IM), Teaming/Webinars, Video Teleconferencing, Video Streaming, Video Portals, Video on Demand systems, and Digital Signage over large geographically dispersed networks. Expert knowledge of modern Cloud service implementations, including VM‑based UC system setup and deployment. Expert level experience implementing Quality of Service (QoS) in large enterprise networks. Expert level experience using packet‑capture and sniffing tools to diagnose and validate UC functionality. Knowledge of diverse and collaborative UC environments and how they interoperate across a WAN comprised of switches, WAN balancers, firewalls, and routers. Skill level equivalent to Cisco CCIE Collaboration, or CCNP Collaboration with a minimum of 8 years of experience. Experience implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Cisco IP Telephony and Collaboration Applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven experience managing and using DevOps concepts. Experience working within an ITIL v3 or v4 framework to deliver enterprise services. Effective time management skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet schedules and deadlines, multitask, plan, organize, prioritize work assignments, and pay close attention to detail. Desired Education, Experience, and Skills U.S. Citizen with DHS Public Trust suitability clearance/EOD. Experience with any DHS agency or entity. Experience using ServiceNow in a Tier 1‑4 support role. Conditions Candidate must be a U.S. citizen able to obtain DHS Public Trust clearance and USCIS EOD to start work.
