Role Description This is a part‑time, in‑person role for a Learning Specialist (Math & Writing) based in Larkspur, CA, with opportunities to work remotely at times. The specialist will provide one‑on‑one support in both math and written expression to students through middle school (with the ability to support high school students as needed), using personalized lesson planning, evidence‑based interventions, and skill development. Deliver engaging, one‑on‑one sessions using research‑based, multi‑sensory techniques (e.g., structured math interventions like Making Math Real, structured literacy/writing approaches, and executive function tools) to remediate skill gaps in math reasoning, computation, written expression, grammar, and composition, reduce academic anxiety, and promote metacognition. Design individualized lesson plans that integrate both math and writing goals, adapting instruction as a student's needs evolve across subjects. Provide targeted support for executive functioning skills, including organization, planning, time management, homework completion, and self‑advocacy, integrated with academic content as needed. Conduct informal progress monitoring, track data on student growth across both subject areas, and regularly adjust strategies to ensure measurable outcomes and continued advancement. Build strong, trusting relationships with students to foster motivation, resilience, and a positive attitude toward learning. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, sharing session insights, home strategies, and recommendations for school accommodations or advocacy. Collaborate with external teams (e.g., school staff, psychologists, or other providers) to align supports and contribute to holistic student development. Maintain accurate session notes, progress reports, and documentation in line with best practices in educational therapy. Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with evidence‑based interventions for neurodivergent learners. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in education, special education, psychology, child development, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience (2–3+ years preferred) providing individualized academic support or educational therapy to children and adolescents with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (Level 1/high‑functioning), executive functioning challenges, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, or other learning differences. Strong expertise in BOTH math and writing instruction through the middle school level (elementary through 8th grade), with the ability to adapt methods using multi‑sensory, evidence‑based approaches (e.g., Making Math Real, structured literacy for writing, and grammar/composition remediation). Comfort and flexibility providing multi‑subject support, including reading, spelling, executive functioning strategies, organization/time management, and homework advocacy—tailored to each student's profile. Excellent interpersonal skills for building rapport with neurodivergent students, collaborating with families, and communicating progress/strategies. Reliable, organized, and passionate about empowering students in a one‑on‑one setting. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree (M.Ed., MA, or MS) in education, special education, educational therapy, counseling, or a related field. Ability to support high school‑level math and writing skills in addition to K‑8. ET/P® (Educational Therapist/Professional) certification or Associate membership with the Association of Educational Therapists (AET), or progress toward it. Training or certification in relevant intervention programs (e.g., Orton‑Gillingham or structured literacy for reading/writing; Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), Empowering Writers, or similar structured writing curricula; Making Math Real, Singapore Math strategies, or multisensory math approaches; executive function coaching tools like those from Peg Dawson or similar). Experience in educational therapy private practice, learning centers, or schools serving students with learning differences in the Marin/Northern California area. Knowledge of current research and best practices for supporting ADHD, ASD Level 1, and co‑occurring conditions.
