General Statement of Duties Responsible for assisting in the care, treatment and education of the patient. An ophthalmic tech works with the ophthalmologist to provide patient care by performing various eye‑related clinical functions. Essential Functions Obtains medical histories from patient Administers diagnostic tests Measures and records vision Maintains optical and surgical instruments Assists the ophthalmologist in office surgical procedures Sets up, stocks, and equips exam and procedure rooms Sterilizes and cleans rooms and equipment after each use Notifies patients of test results as instructed by the physician Maintains and clears task list daily Provides support in the department when necessary; a team player Can be cross‑trained to cover scheduling surgeries and help answer incoming calls Adheres to all MMC policies and procedures Assists patients in moving from waiting to exam rooms Makes patients happy Answers all patient’s questions Supervises and trains other ophthalmic personnel Performance Criteria Follows physician orders and communicates with patients in a supportive manner Assesses patient and department needs and responds accordingly Works in a team approach toward quality patient care Handles multiple tasks at once, is flexible, and follows detailed instructions Role models appropriate behavior Learns to operate ophthalmic equipment such as Sonomed A‑scan, IOL Master, Auto‑refractor, Automated Lensometer, Amsler grid, Stereo test, Ishihara’s test for colour blindness, Worth 4 dot, and glare test Worker Specifications Must be able to work 40 hours per week; ophthalmology department schedule 7:30 am to 5:00 pm (approximately 2½ hours overtime per week) Must be able to multi‑task Must be a team player #J-18808-Ljbffr Murfreesboro Medical Clinic
