Job Description
The Lead Commercial Carpenter oversees and executes high-quality remodeling and construction work within a commercial environment. This role combines hands-on carpentry tasks with project oversight, ensuring that all work meets strict quality, safety, and code standards while coordinating effectively with subcontractors, tradespeople, and project stakeholders.
Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage commercial remodeling projects, ensuring all work is completed on time, within scope, and to high quality standards.
• Perform or coordinate a variety of carpentry tasks, including framing, drywall installation, drywall finishing, tile work, cabinetry, and other general remodeling duties.
• Lead metal stud framing and finish carpentry activities to support construction and renovation projects.
• Collaborate closely with subcontractors, tradespeople, and clients to maintain clear communication and seamless project execution.
• Ensure all work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and internal company standards.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve on-site challenges efficiently to keep projects on track.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout all phases of construction.

Essential Skills

• At least 2+ years of experience in drywall installation or framing in a residential or commercial setting.
• Strong proficiency in drywall installation and drywall finishing.
• Hands-on experience with metal stud framing in commercial construction projects.
• Solid general carpentry skills, including framing and finish carpentry.
• Ability to oversee and coordinate multiple remodeling tasks such as tile work and cabinetry.
• Understanding of local building codes and safety regulations relevant to commercial construction.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues on-site in a timely and effective manner.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with subcontractors, tradespeople, and clients.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe job site.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Any additional carpentry experience beyond drywall and framing is a plus.
• Experience working on commercial construction or remodeling projects is highly beneficial.
• Ability and willingness to learn from team members and adapt to new techniques.
• Interest in building a long-term career in commercial carpentry and construction.

Work Environment
This role is based in a new commercial facility at a major applied physics laboratory, specifically within a newly constructed building. The setting involves active construction and remodeling work, including framing, drywall, and finish carpentry, with an emphasis on safety, organization, and adherence to building codes. The environment offers exposure to advanced commercial construction practices and collaboration with experienced tradespeople and carpenters.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jessup, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
