Job Title: CNC Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing CNC machining equipment and related production machinery to maximize machine uptime and minimize production disruptions. You will serve as a key maintenance resource on second shift, working largely independently while supporting production operations and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The position requires strong CNC maintenance experience, extensive troubleshooting experience, and the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on CNC machining equipment and post-machining production machinery to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control-related issues on CNC machines and associated equipment.

• Conduct root cause analysis on recurring equipment problems and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime and improve long-term equipment reliability.

• Use maintenance management systems to plan, schedule, document, and complete preventive maintenance activities in a timely manner.

• Support equipment installations, relocations, upgrades, and decommissioning projects, ensuring proper setup, alignment, and functionality.

• Collaborate with engineers, machine operators, production supervisors, and external machine technicians to resolve complex equipment issues and maintain smooth production flow.

• Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, and technical documentation to accurately troubleshoot and repair equipment.

• Independently diagnose and repair CNC equipment with minimal supervision, making sound decisions to restore equipment to safe and efficient operation.

• Utilize diagnostic tools, meters, and testing equipment to verify system performance, identify faults, and confirm successful repairs.

• Troubleshoot AC/DC drives and motors, power supplies, CNC controls, electrical wiring, relays, switches, bearings, gears, chains, sprockets, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems as needed.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of CNC maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Strong understanding of CNC machine operation, maintenance practices, and troubleshooting techniques.

• Hands-on experience working with Fanuc controls and navigating CNC control systems.

• Proven ability to independently diagnose and repair CNC equipment with minimal supervision.

• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting AC/DC drives and motors, power supplies, CNC controls, electrical wiring, relays, and switches.

• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical components including bearings, gears, chains, and sprockets.

• Experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production equipment.

• Proficiency using diagnostic tools, meters, and testing equipment to identify and resolve equipment issues.

• Strong mechanical aptitude combined with solid problem-solving skills in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience supporting CNC lathes and milling equipment.

• Familiarity with multi-axis CNC machines and their maintenance requirements.

• Fork truck or tow motor certification.

• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), or other continuous improvement initiatives.

• Basic CNC programming knowledge, helpful but not required.

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing facility with CNC machining centers, lathes, milling equipment, and post-machining production machinery. You work on second shift, supporting active production operations and responding to equipment issues as they arise. The environment involves regular use of diagnostic tools, meters, and testing equipment, as well as frequent interaction with Fanuc-controlled CNC machines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and various mechanical drive components. You will move throughout the production floor, working around running equipment, and may support equipment installations, relocations, and upgrades. Appropriate work attire typically includes durable clothing and safety gear suitable for a shop-floor environment, such as safety shoes, eye protection, and other standard personal protective equipment as required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Haven, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $44.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
