About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Women's Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM) Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Labor and Delivery and Postpartum care License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Stable, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Labor and Delivery, postpartum, and circulating experience; triage experience strongly preferred Description: Unit has 10 beds designated for Labor and Delivery. There are 2 operating room suites available for C-sections. Registered nurses will circulate in the operating rooms. The unit has 4 triage beds. There are 10 postpartum beds available. Approximately 120 births occur each month on average. AWHONN standards are followed for ratios, primarily 1:1 in Labor and Delivery and 1:6 for couple care in postpartum. Common patient types include laboring patients 32 weeks and greater, elective inductions of labor, medical inductions of labor, stable antepartum patients, postpartum patients, and well newborns. Registered nurses are required to titrate drips, mainly Pitocin per protocol, magnesium, and rarely insulin. Each shift includes a Charge Nurse, Resource Nurse, and House Supervisor. Charge and Resource Nurses do not have patient assignments. CNA support is provided on the unit for 4-5 days and nights per week. Unit clerk services are available 24/7. OB hospitalists are present 24/7, with midwives always on call. Neonatal nurse practitioners are available 24/7, with a neonatologist on call within 15 minutes. CRNA services are available 24/7 for anesthesia needs. The unit operates 12-hour shifts, with scheduling consideration for staff. Floating to like units may be required, with prior notice provided. The dress code includes blue scrubs, which are provided on the unit. Customized orientation typically ranges from 4 to 6 shifts. EPIC is the charting system used.
