Professional Learning & Development Opportunities Position Overview Astyra’s client, a leading technology consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join its growing data engineering practice. This individual will work with clients to design, build, and maintain advanced data solutions that bring together information from disparate sources and enable better business decision-making. The Senior Data Engineer will design modern data pipelines, prepare data for use by data scientists, analysts, applications, and other data platforms, and leverage cloud technologies to build scalable solutions for complex business needs. This is a highly collaborative consulting environment offering the opportunity to work alongside data engineers, architects, developers, business stakeholders, and client teams across a variety of industries and technology environments. What You’ll Do Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients, providing guidance on data engineering best practices, methodologies, architectures, and technologies. Design, implement, and maintain modern data pipelines using appropriate cloud and data technologies. Build scalable solutions for data extraction, ingestion, transformation, processing, and storage. Partner with product owners, business SMEs, and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into supportable and sustainable engineering solutions. Provide technical leadership and collaborate within and across teams to ensure solutions align with client requirements and broader technology strategies. Evaluate and recommend traditional and modern architectural components based on business and technical needs. Stay current with emerging cloud, data engineering, and data architecture technologies, patterns, and methodologies. Clearly communicate technical concepts, recommendations, results, and ideas to both technical and business stakeholders. Mentor and provide technical guidance to other data engineers. Qualifications 5+ years of experience delivering data engineering solutions in cloud environments. Experience building and operating highly available, distributed systems supporting data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets. 5+ years of experience implementing modern data solutions using at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Advanced proficiency with at least one ETL or data orchestration technology, such as Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Informatica, Alteryx, Ab Initio, Pentaho, Talend, or Matillion. Experience with cloud-based data warehouse and data lake technologies such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or Databricks. 5+ years of experience working with SQL or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Aurora, Presto, or BigQuery. Strong expertise in SQL, database design, database structures, and data modeling, including star schemas, snowflake schemas, and normalized/denormalized designs. 5+ years of experience with at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, Java, R, C, C#, C++, or Shell scripting. Familiarity with DevOps and software development tools and practices, including Git, Jenkins, CI/CD, and Jira. Understanding of big data, open-source technologies, and data streaming concepts. Ability to think strategically and recommend appropriate architectural approaches based on business and technical requirements. Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other data engineers. Strong communication and client-facing skills with the ability to operate effectively in a consulting environment.
