Responsible for inspecting vehicles and equipment for safe and dependable operation. Performs intermediate-level maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on company vehicles and equipment with limited supervision. Mechanic II is expected to independently troubleshoot and repair a broader range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine systems and assist with more complex repairs as needed.

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and engine defects in buses and other automotive and heavy equipment, including diesel engines.

Perform diagnostic troubleshooting and repair of engine codes under the OBD-II system.

Perform intermediate-level troubleshooting of electrical, hydraulic, braking, fuel, cooling, and drivetrain systems.

Prep vehicles and equipment for service, including cleaning and washing vehicles and equipment.

Ensure proper operation of engines, tools, and equipment by inspecting for worn or defective parts and completing preventive maintenance according to manufacturers' maintenance manuals.

Perform preventive maintenance and regular safety inspections on vehicles and equipment, including snow removal machines, heavy equipment, buses, trucks, vans, snowmobiles, and other company vehicles.

Change oil and filters, install antifreeze and snow chains, repair tires, adjust and repair brakes, lubricate chassis and wheel bearings, and service other assemblies as required.

Diagnose and repair moderate mechanical and hydraulic system issues with limited supervision.

Assist with more complex repairs and major component replacement, including engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic components, and electrical systems.

Locate sources of problems by observing, listening to, testing, and checking mechanical devices in operation. Remove defective parts by dismantling equipment, examining components, diagnosing the cause of failure, and correcting the condition.

Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventory by checking stock levels, identifying needed parts and supplies, and communicating inventory needs.

Mend and repair damaged body parts and components as required.

Maintain accurate logs, work orders, and worksheets documenting inspections, maintenance, repairs, parts used, and other work performed.

Perform basic metal fabrication, cutting, grinding, and welding as required.

May operate a variety of light and heavy equipment and power tools while adhering to all safety regulations and company policies.

Assist with minor snow removal around the shop and from vehicles and equipment.

May assist with training or providing technical guidance to Mechanic I employees.

Minimum age of 18.

Valid Driver's License.

CDL Class B with air brake endorsement preferred.

Ability to Ski/Snowboard preferred, but not required.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum of 3 years of automobile, diesel, or equipment maintenance experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems.

Working knowledge of automotive and diesel mechanic problem solving and diagnostic procedures.

Basic math skills.

Working knowledge of State and Federal DOT regulations.

Working knowledge of the OBD-II system and diagnostic equipment.

Working knowledge of hydraulic systems and their diagnosis and repair.

Working knowledge of braking systems, including air brake systems.

Ability to read and interpret manufacturer's maintenance manuals, service information, schematics, and repair procedures.

Air brake certification preferred but not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, see, hear, and smell.

The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects tools or controls.

Must be capable of frequent wrist, elbow and should twisting and pulling movements.

Must be capable of walking or standing 70% or more of a normal 8-hour work shift.

Must be capable of occasionally lifting and pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs., and

frequently lifting, pushing, or pulling, and carrying up to 40lbs.

Must be capable of climbing movements, walking on uneven terrain, walking on snow and ice, and operating snow vehicles.

Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, and crawl.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Indoor / Outdoor: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in precarious places.

Hazardous Materials / Noise: Employee will often be in contact with hazardous substances. They will be occasionally exposed to extreme hot/cold and wet conditions, noise, fumes or airborne particles, and the risk of electric shock. The noise level in the workplace is usually loud.
