HVAC/R Technician

Location: 7601 Holliday Drive, Kansas City, KS, 66106, United States Employment Type: FT Non-Exempt Required Degree: High school Contact Information: Name: Karen King Description: The purpose of this position is to maintain, repair, and install Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration, (HVAC/R) equipment in all WaterOne facilities. The pay range for this position is $25.67/hr to $38.51/hr. Compensation for the selected candidate will depend on candidate qualifications and experience as related to the position requirements. Every day, nearly 455,000 customers rely on WaterOne to provide fresh, clean water on demand. Essential Functions: Maintains HVAC/R equipment and controls for all WaterOne facilities. Tests, repairs, and replaces associated equipment such as boilers, chillers, air handling units, pneumatic control systems, electronic control systems, cooling towers, motor starters, pump motors, etc. Repairs and maintains chemical feed systems necessary to maintain cooling tower and boiler water quality. Performs preventive maintenance to all HVAC/R equipment including inspections, adjustments, cleaning, and calibrations to ensure proper operation of equipment. Maintains an inventory of equipment and materials on service trucks. Diagnoses electrical and mechanical faults in HVAC systems. Assists with duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with all applicable requirements. Other Duties: Perform other job duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Current EPA Refrigerant Recovery Type Universal or Type 2 Certification or ability to obtain certification within six months of employment. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC/R). Familiar with common practices to diagnose and perform needed repairs to equipment or components associated with building automation and climate control systems. Ability to communicate with internal customers about their needs and explain technical issues. Knowledge and ability to replace expansion valves, compressors, motors, coil units, and other components of HVAC/R equipment. Knowledge of cooling tower and boiler water treatment systems and chemical feeds. Familiar with proper nomenclature of all tools, equipment, and materials used in the construction and maintenance of HVAC/R equipment. Ability to learn proper maintenance of system control equipment, and electric motors, starters, primary pumping units, HVAC units, and structural circuits. Strong basic math skills. Basic computer proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word). Ability to communicate well in English, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of basic safety requirements, use of personal protective equipment, and proper use of power and hand tools. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with the team and other WaterOne employees. Possess a valid driver's license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards. Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background verification in accordance with WaterOne standards. Preferred Qualifications: Completion of a HVAC/R vocational school or A.A.S Degree: HVAC, or completion of an HVAC/R apprenticeship program. One year of experience as an HVAC Technician in an industrial, utility, or commercial setting.
