Role Description NYU Langone Health is seeking a Clinical Veterinarian. The Clinical Veterinarian will report to, and act on behalf of, the Assistant Director. The Clinical Veterinarian is responsible for helping to implement the clinical program of veterinary care in the Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM). Responsibilities * Provides clinical veterinary care * Schedules and/or participates in an on-call, emergency care, weekend and holiday rotation as required to assure clinical veterinary coverage * Actively manages and oversees clinical research involving rabbit and swine species with responsibilities that include developing and implementing procedures for pre and post-operative care, anesthesia, analgesia, and euthanasia, in addition to providing direct oversight of a surgical OR and related resources * Serves as an alternate member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee * Oversees a veterinary externship program * Serves as a faculty member within a veterinary postdoctoral training program in laboratory animal medicine with responsibilities including, but not limited to, participation in a didactic lecture series, participation in a journal review rotation, and clinical mentorship of veterinary postdoctoral fellows * Helps to ensure NYU Langone Health's program of veterinary care remains in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and meets AAALAC accreditation standards * Collaboratively coordinates with departments within DCM, such as Operations and the DCM Business Office, in addition to departments outside of DCM, such as Environmental Health & Safety and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee * Provides surgical and technical support to investigators through training and animal model development * Helps to manage preventative medicine programs, including the rodent sentinel program, vendor surveillance, and rodent quarantine * Develops, updates, and implements departmental standard operating procedures * Develops short and long-term plans to help achieve departmental goals, or to support the implementation of new ideas or processes, and proactively identifies and addresses contingencies * Maintains familiarity with trends, issues, and advances in strategic and program planning through periodic review of relevant journals or other literature * Identifies and actively pursues a planned program of professional growth through continuing education, etc. Additional Responsibilities and Performance Standards * Respects and maintains research confidentiality * Cooperates and communicates effectively and harmoniously with supervisor, management, peers, general staff, physicians, other research personnel, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner * Written and verbal communications are effective, informative, and professional. * Is customer service oriented and attentive to others, responds appropriately, answer questions, and/or provides needed information within reasonable time frames * Makes sound judgments, based on gathering and analyzing factual and objective data; is able to interpret policies and procedures in order to make a sound independent decision. * Demonstrates alertness and adaptability to dynamic working conditions; responds appropriately. * Makes decisions in a timely manner. * Makes suggestions for positive changes. * Readily accepts new responsibilities and assignments. * Recognizes when help might be needed by others, proactively offers guidance and assistance.
