About the Job

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides direct clinical support and patient care under the supervision and direction of a physician, nurse, and/or Practice Manager. The CMA is responsible for providing professional, compassionate, and courteous care to patients while supporting the overall operations of the Tremont Physician's Office and other HMC medical and satellite offices as needed.

The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. CMAs are scheduled to work approximately every fifth or sixth Saturday morning . Flexibility to work at other HMC medical and satellite offices is required.

Certification through a nationally recognized certifying agency is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare visit sheets, forms, and other necessary paperwork for patient appointments, ensuring all required materials and documents are available prior to the patient's visit.
• Greet patients and escort them to the appropriate exam room.
• Obtain and accurately document vital signs, patient history, current medications, and chief complaint.
• Assist physicians and nursing staff with examinations, procedures, and other patient care activities.
• Complete patient documentation accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner.
• Complete diagnostic imaging and laboratory requisitions accurately, including the appropriate diagnosis for each test ordered.
• Provide and document patient education, including medication instructions and other physician-directed information.
• Notify patients of test results and physician comments or instructions after the results have been reviewed and approved by the physician.
• Answer incoming telephone calls and assist patients with questions or requests within the scope of the position.
• Schedule referral appointments and other follow-up services as ordered by the physician.
• File laboratory, radiology, dictation, and other reports in patient charts or prepare documents for scanning into the electronic medical record.
• Cross-train and provide receptionist coverage for the Medical Arts and satellite offices as needed.
• Assist consulting specialty physicians and their staff, including Cardiology, Urology, Orthopedics, Spine, and other visiting specialists.
• Check and maintain adequate supplies in physician and nursing exam rooms.
• Sort and review incoming laboratory and outpatient test results and route them to the appropriate physician for review.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, infection prevention, and HMC policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and the needs of the medical practice.

Requirements

• Certification through a nationally recognized certifying agency is required.
• Current CPR/BLS certification is required, or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
• Flexibility to work at the Tremont Physician's Office and other HMC medical and satellite offices is required.
• Availability to work Saturday mornings on a rotating basis, approximately every fifth or sixth Saturday.
• Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, other healthcare professionals, patients, and families.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and composure in a busy clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Medical Assistant in a physician office or other healthcare setting.
• Venipuncture experience preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records preferred.
• Experience working with specialty physicians and/or multiple clinical specialties preferred.

Compensation details: 19-21 Hourly Wage
