Production Underwriter- Package Lines

Encova Insurance has an immediate opening for a Production Underwriter, Package Lines responsible for accounts averaging over $75k in premium. Ideal candidates will reside in Central Indiana (Fort Wayne, South Bend, or Indianapolis). Salary range: $97,153 – $194,990 annually, plus bonus and benefits. Travel: Will travel the assigned territory to visit agencies; a company vehicle will be provided. Job Objective Represent Encova Insurance and function as the agency manager for assigned agents with a primary focus on commercial lines (e.g., worker's compensation and/or package lines). Responsible for achieving established premium growth and profitability objectives, reviewing risks, determining acceptability, writing profitable new business and retaining profitable renewal accounts. Focuses on taking action to achieve results that positively impact growth and profitability while ensuring excellent customer service and timely responsiveness to assigned agencies. Essential Functions Act as liaison between Encova and its appointed agency force; develop and maintain agency relationships through regular visits with agency leadership and production staff. Facilitate agency growth and profitability with Encova. Assist agencies with training and tools for sustainable, profitable growth across all profit centers. Gather competitive intelligence and stay abreast of current insurance laws and regulations. Prospect and qualify new agents for potential appointments. Submit written reports as required. Attend industry events. Determine acceptability, quality, pricing, profitability and opportunity for new and renewal business. Complete thorough risk analysis on designated accounts using applicable guidelines. Identify, create, and initiate new business opportunities within current book of business and assigned agencies. Gather and analyze information necessary to make accurate risk evaluations. Determine appropriate pricing based on risk exposures and coverage. Utilize available resources including company underwriting guidelines, business unit strategies, and consultation with others. Prepare and participate in proposals to producers; negotiate terms and conditions. Ensure proper issuance of policies, certificates, filings and notifications. Apply rules for proper policy construction. Seek guidance for risks exceeding authority. Identify underwriting issues; develop and implement solutions. Manage existing and prospective accounts by participating in renewals and presentations. Analyze performance of assigned agents; initiate actions and recognize alternative actions. Coordinate service delivery of various disciplines within the team. Lead sales and training sessions for new products, programs, and systems. Other Functions Travel within territory by automobile; travel constitutes a significant portion of time. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Minimum 5 years’ progressive commercial lines underwriting experience in package lines and/or worker's compensation. Bachelor’s degree preferred; underwriting experience may substitute. Working knowledge of commercial multi-line underwriting, pricing and coverage. Strong sales/marketing and agency relationship skills. Preferred: CPCU and/or ARM designation. Strong writing skills with emphasis on marketing. Creative and entrepreneurial approach to sales and marketing initiatives. Ability to manage multiple priorities and tight timelines. High-level interpersonal, communication, analytical, presentation and problem-solving skills. Critical thinking to assess situations and select appropriate rules. Knowledge of applicable laws and rules. Knowledge of policy and procedures in risk administration, underwriting and loss control. Knowledge of insurance industry and business environment. Understanding of exposure calculations and rating. Ability to develop account, territorial, producer and book strategies. Collaboration skills in a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, intranet and internet. Valid driver’s license; ability to operate a vehicle.
