Exemption Status: Non‑Exempt Hiring Range: $27.90 - $50.22 Schedule Details: Holidays – Every Third Holiday, Monday through Friday, Weekends (Saturday and Sunday), Weekends – Every Third Weekend Scheduled Hours: 7pm-7am Shift: 3 – Night Shift, 12 Hours (United States of America) Hours: 36 Cost Center: 24050 – 1710 Respiratory Therapy Sign‑On Bonus: Up to $10,000 – eligibility discussed during interview Major Responsibilities Work as part of a team to ensure optimal patient care. Review patients electronic medical record for appropriate history, reason for admission, pertinent laboratory/radiological data, and current orders. Administer aerosolized medications. Draw and analyze arterial blood gases; report critical values per hospital policy. Consult with physician staff concerning the most efficacious forms of therapy and make recommendations to enhance patient care (including type, method, duration of therapy, and suggested medications/dosages) compatible with physician orders and communicate these effectively with the healthcare team. Monitor patients' physiological responses to therapy (e.g., vital signs, arterial blood gases) and consult with physicians if adverse reactions occur. Provide emergency care including assisting with intubation, Rapid Response Team, High Risk Delivery, and Code Team. Inspect, test, clean, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment as per department policy. Demonstrate and instruct respiratory care procedures to new staff, other healthcare personnel, patients, and patients' families. Provide clinical and general guidance to new, agency, per‑diem, and student therapy personnel. Provide direct supervision for respiratory therapy students. Set up and operate devices such as basic oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilators, CPAP/Bi‑Level support, NIPPV, and high‑flow oxygen therapy in accordance with department policy and procedures. Maintain all necessary patient and department records on the electronic medical record and medical administration record. Follow hospital policy and procedure regarding patient medication administration. Participate in departmental quality assurance programs. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of current techniques, developments, and issues in respiratory care through attendance at educational meetings, lectures, and conferences. Provide verbal reports including diagnosis, significant past medical history, reason(s) for admission, treatment goals and plans, patients' response to treatment, and suggestions to optimize patients' treatment plan. Set up and operate a body plethysmograph in accordance with department policy and procedures. Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education Required: Associate of Science in Respiratory Care Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Current Massachusetts State Respiratory Care License Basic Life Support Certification Advanced Cardiac Life Support (required within 3 months of employment) Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (required within 3 months of employment) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (required within 3 months of employment) Valid and unrestricted driver's license recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and access to a reliable, insured vehicle Preferred: Bachelor of Science or higher Specialty credential issued by the NBRC (ACCS, SDS, NPS, or RPFT) AE‑C Certification Experience/Skills Required: Critical care experience, technical and computer skills. Ability to assess patients and make appropriate therapeutic recommendations along the continuum of care from admission to discharge, including all aspects of respiratory care from floor therapies to mechanical ventilation and blood gas interpretation. Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English. Preferred: Two (2) years of acute care experience. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
