Senior VDC Specialist

Role Summary Position of Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Specialist III involves creating 3D models of electrical components for construction projects within a specified schedule as a senior team contributor. The specialist will communicate and work closely with the VDC team, VDC Supervisor, Project Managers, and Field Supervisors to coordinate the layout of electrical components as required for the projects. Coordination with other Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) trade partners and general contractors is required. The role also requires occasional 2D drafting, detailing, Total Station point drawings, and other miscellaneous document work. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Explain the essential responsibilities of this position. Include the major aspects of the job. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 3D BIM Modeling (40%) Model 3D elements from start to finish for electrical work on construction projects within the specified schedule. Coordinate drawings with project needs, working with field supervisors with limited VDC supervision. Finish drawings per established project schedule. Provide final install drawings to project management for field personnel with limited supervision. Provide final as‑built models to project management for the general contractor for delivery to owner. Provide technical guidance and recommendations to less skilled VDC team members as backup to the VDC Supervisor. Distribute tasks to less experienced VDC team members assigned to a specific project. Clash Detection And Resolution (15%) Individually resolve clashes with other trade and building models. Project Coordination Meetings (15%) Attend project coordination meetings with the general contractor, MEP trade contractors, architect and engineers as scheduled/required to keep current of project developments, milestones and timelines. Attend project coordination meetings described above, potentially as the exclusive representative, to work through and resolve clashes and model conflicts. Software Maintenance And Knowledge (5%) Maintain all required software licenses necessary to complete work. Keep current of new software as it becomes available to replace, supplement and enhance existing software programs in order to make work more effective. Create and utilize Revit families and templates. Provide recommendations on standard operating procedures within the team. 2D CAD Drafting (5%) Create 2D drawings of electrical work as required for details, prefabrication, one‑lines, 2D layouts and as‑built drawings for projects as needed. Produce Total Station point drawings with limited supervision. Create as‑built drawings as required. Project Documentation (5%) Keep detailed and current records of all project work including but not limited to drawings, correspondence and schedules. Maintain and update drawing files and all project files. Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination Pre‑plan and identify methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task. Observe and bring attention to safety habits and hazards of others. Uphold safety as the most important goal of the company. Support a goal of achieving zero accidents. Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements and PPE needed. Obtain required safety training as expected by all company personnel. Financial Limits of authority: Financial limits of authority for bidding, contracts, change orders, and lien waivers may be viewed by the incumbent in a secured, limited access area of the company website. It is the employee’s responsibility to stay current on these limits of authority. Qualifications And Requirements Associate’s degree in Architectural Technology or related construction degree (or construction experience) is preferred. 5+ years’ experience in Virtual Design Construction working with Revit and AutoCAD. Electrical contracting/construction experience preferred. Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, BIM 360, Navisworks, and Microsoft Suite software. Preferred experience in One Model and BlueBeam. Proficiency within the Microsoft Suite (Office 365 and One Drive included) is required. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Positive safety attitude and personal integrity – both are non‑negotiable.
