Workers’ Compensation Underwriter

The Workers' Compensation Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, selecting, accepting or rejecting, pricing, and servicing workers' compensation insurance policies in accordance with accepted company procedures and guidelines. This role maintains effective broker relationships and manages profitability while ensuring compliance with underwriting standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluate new business submissions and all policy documentation to determine hazards and exposures associated with prospective clients and potential placement in insurance programs
• Ensure documentation contains accurate information for underwriting, including proper class codes, locations, payroll, and loss information
• Review submission information to provide recommendations on proper insurance program placement, prepare and monitor submissions, obtain quotes, and calculate proper billing rates
• Ensure all premium, collateral, and expenses are paid for every bound policy
• Assist with underwriting audits and monitoring activities related to individual accounts or programs
• Manage and report on program performance for growth and profitability
• Review and identify risks with performance issues; collaborate with claims and loss control for client intervention when necessary
• Analyze submissions to determine placement requirements for Master policies, Brokered, or Xcomp placements
• Add new submissions timely to Log and Database with proper status codes, notes, and dates
• Maintain documentation for prospect folders including emod, Proof of Coverage, website, address, and OSHA information
• Refer accounts outside underwriting authority to Management before providing indications or approved pricing
• Review implementations and mock payrolls for accuracy, including class codes, positions, and billing/cost rates

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• College degree or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years Underwriting Workers' Compensation
• Knowledge of PRISM, Isolve, or Client Space a plus
• Experience utilizing SharePoint for shared documentation access
• Gradient pricing tool, a plus
• Excel

COMPENSATION:

The starting base pay for this position is listed below. However, you should know that the pay rate may vary based on regional location, the candidate’s skill, and relevant experience. In addition, some positions may include a form of bonus or other incentive compensation, which would not be included in this salary range.

Salary Range: $50,000-$65,000
