OMG produces investigative reporting, undercover journalism, and original programming focused on matters of public interest, institutional accountability, and government and corporate misconduct. By combining the work of an experienced in-house media team with a nationwide network of citizen journalists, OMG seeks to equip Americans to document events, uncover facts, and bring important stories directly to the public.


Position Overview


The IT Manager is accountable for the reliability, security, and continuous improvement of OMG's technology environment. This position supports employees, production facilities, communications platforms, networks, devices, and audiovisual systems to ensure technology does not prevent the organization from executing its mission.


Success requires technical expertise, urgency, sound judgment, discretion, documentation, and a service-oriented approach. The IT Manager must anticipate problems, communicate risks early, respond calmly to critical incidents, and take ownership of issues through resolution.


Areas of Accountability

Technology Reliability

Objective: Maintain a stable technology environment that enables uninterrupted business and production operations.


Measures of Success

• Networks, internet service, workstations, servers, and business systems remain reliable and available.

• No preventable technology failures cause production cancellations or significant operational delays.

• Critical incidents are identified, communicated, and resolved promptly.

• Network performance is reviewed and documented quarterly.

Cybersecurity and Data Protection

Objective: Protect personnel, communications, investigative material, intellectual property, and organizational systems.


Measures of Success

• No preventable cybersecurity incidents occur.

• Critical vulnerabilities are remediated within 48 hours of identification.

• Multi-factor authentication and appropriate access controls are maintained across applicable systems.

• Security reviews, employee training, and risk-mitigation activities are completed quarterly.

• Backups and disaster recovery procedures are documented and tested regularly.

Communications and Collaboration Systems

Objective: Provide dependable platforms that support clear and efficient communication across the


organization.


Measures of Success

• Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, VoIP, internal messaging, and conference-room systems maintain 99.9% availability.

• Employees receive appropriate access, training, and support for approved platforms.

• Collaboration tools are standardized, and unnecessary duplication is reduced.

• Approved improvements are implemented successfully and supported by clear documentation.

Production and Audiovisual Readiness

Objective: Keep podcast studios, livestream systems, editing suites, conference rooms, and field equipment ready for immediate use.


Measures of Success

• Preventive maintenance is completed on audiovisual and production systems quarterly.

• Production-critical failures receive an immediate response and are targeted for resolution within one hour.

• No preventable IT or equipment failure that causes a production cancellation or reschedule.

• Field technology is inspected and confirmed operational before deployment.

Internal IT Support

Objective: Resolve technical problems quickly and professionally so employees can remain focused on their work.


Measures of Success

• Critical support requests receive an initial response within 15 minutes.

• Employees receive clear communication about issue status, workarounds, and resolution.

• Root causes are identified, and recurring support issues decline over time.

• Support interactions demonstrate patience, professionalism, urgency, and accountability.

• Requests, resolutions, and recurring problems are documented consistently.

Infrastructure and Asset Management

Objective: Build a standardized, scalable, and cost-effective technology environment.


Measures of Success

• An accurate inventory is maintained for all company technology assets.

• Workstations and device configurations are standardized based on role requirements.

• New employees are fully provisioned before their first day.

• Departing employees' access and equipment are secured promptly.

• Annual lifecycle and replacement recommendations are provided for aging equipment.

• Technology improvements reduce recurring issues, support costs, and technical debt.

Planning and Cross-Functional Execution

Objective: Align technology priorities with organizational growth, operational needs, and available resources.


Measures of Success

• Technology risks, costs, and resource needs are communicated before they disrupt operations.

• Projects include clear requirements, timelines, owners, documentation, and implementation plans.

• Leadership receives practical recommendations with costs, risks, and available options.

• Vendors are managed effectively and held accountable for service performance.

• Technology projects are completed on schedule and within approved budgets.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of progressive IT experience involving systems administration, networking, cybersecurity, device management, and end-user support.

• Previous IT leadership, department ownership, or project management experience preferred.

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, macOS, firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi, VPNs, VoIP, cloud services, endpoint management, backups, and disaster recovery.

• Experience supporting podcast studios, livestreams, video conferencing, conference rooms, and professional audiovisual equipment.

• Demonstrated experience with endpoint protection, access management, multi-factor authentication, vulnerability remediation, and security controls.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

• Ability to prioritize competing demands, remain composed during critical incidents, and follow issues through resolution.

• Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information.

• Ability to explain technical issues and recommendations clearly to nontechnical employees and leadership.

• Willingness to provide support outside regular business hours when critical operational or production needs require it.

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field preferred; relevant certifications are a plus.
