Position Overview We’re looking for a hands-on, client-facing Solutions Engineer/Architect to lead our agency's technical backbone. You’ll work closely with our founder, Head of Delivery, and senior developers to elevate our technical delivery — from sales calls to shipping real code . This role blends technical leadership, pre-sales support, discovery and solutioning, mentorship, and tooling/system oversight. But make no mistake: this is a builder’s role . While you’ll guide architectural decisions and mentor the team, we’re specifically looking for someone who’s excited to roll up their sleeves, unblock teammates, and write code when it counts . You’ll bring structure and confidence to our dev process while helping win and deliver great work for mid-market Shopify brands. Responsibilities and Duties Join client sales calls to advise on technical feasibility, scoping, and architecture Lead discovery phases: scope features, write technical documentation, surface dev risks Translate client goals into well-scoped projects, tickets, and dev plans Support and mentor 3–5 developers (Liquid, Shopify 2.0, Hydrogen/React) Lead PR/code reviews, unblock devs in the codebase, and set the bar for scalable, performant Shopify development Guide decision-making on architecture, performance, and reusability Hands-On Development Write clean, performant code in Liquid, Hydrogen (React), and supporting tooling when needed Contribute directly to client deliverables — especially during early phases, blockers, or critical launches Set the tone for velocity and code quality by being involved in the trenches when the moment calls for it Process & Tooling Collaborate with leadership on dev workflows and tooling (e.g. AI tools, Cursor, automation) Propose improvements to increase velocity, consistency, and quality Oversee technical documentation and internal knowledge systems You Might Be a Fit If... You’ve led or contributed to 10+ Shopify Plus builds, including migrations, headless or Hydrogen projects You’re just as comfortable on a Zoom with a CMO as you are in GitHub with a developer You’re fluent in Shopify Liquid, React, GraphQL, and build/deploy pipelines You love mentoring and lifting up a team without becoming a bottleneck You’re strategic, proactive, and decisive — especially in small agency environments You're not afraid to jump into a repo and push a hotfix, POC, or scoped feature when the moment calls for it — even if you're also leading architecture discussions the same day Qualifications 5+ years of experience in frontend development, with deep hands-on expertise in Shopify Liquid and React 10+ Shopify Plus builds under your belt — including custom themes, migrations, and headless/Hydrogen implementations Proven experience leading or contributing to technical discovery, scoping, and architecture for ecommerce brands Comfortable with client-facing work — able to translate technical decisions into business outcomes Skilled in mentoring developers, conducting PR/code reviews, and guiding architectural best practices Strong understanding of GraphQL, Shopify APIs, and build/deploy workflows Comfortable working in small, fast-moving teams with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset Demonstrated ability to write clean, performant, scalable code Familiarity with or willingness to dive into modern tooling: GitHub Actions, Cursor, Storybook, Polaris, etc. Strong written communication skills — capable of writing clear technical docs and proposals Benefits & Compensation Fully remote Unlimited PTO time Health, Dental, and Vision benefits available Opportunities for progression within a fast-growing agency We’re an equal opportunity employer.
