Job Title RN – Acute Care – System Reports To Department Manager/Director Location & Shift Full-time; Third Shift (1900‑0730). Schedule includes every other weekend and holidays. Position Overview The Acute Care RN provides quality patient and family centered care as a member of the health care team in accordance with St.Charles Health System mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures. The RN oversees the work of other caregivers, providing direct care to assigned patient(s) throughout the shift and collaborates with other disciplines to meet patients’ physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs. Essential Functions & Duties Maintain and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques and apply this knowledge in accordance with St.Charles Health System policies and procedures and within laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Oregon. Assess the patient’s condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment; set outcomes; implement appropriate nursing actions and collaborate with other disciplines. Calculate dosages and administer medications accurately in accordance with St.Charles Health System policies and procedures for medication administration. Document all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory agencies. Demonstrate awareness of and support departmental and operating unit goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities. Participate in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others. Communicate (both written and orally) effectively and maintain professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests. Identify work‑related problems with possible solutions and implement solution(s) within scope of practice, as appropriate. Support the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects. Support Value Improvement Practice (VIP‑Lean) principles and function as a champion of change. Create a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient, and caregiver. Provide therapeutic presence and purposeful response to patients’ needs, including self‑introduction, role explanation, name inquiry, care goal discussion, active listening, and appropriate communication through touch, eye contact, etc. Maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests. Conduct all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures and support the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting ethically and reporting violations. Deliver patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate. Perform stand‑by callback as assigned (varies by department). MAY perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned. Education Member of the RN licensing requirement (Oregon RN license required). Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Licensure / Certification Current Oregon RN license (required). AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification (required). Preferred: Department‑specific acute care certification (e.g., CNRN, ONC, RNC, OCN, CRRN). Experience Preferred: Department‑specific acute care experience. Personal Protective Equipment Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely. Physical Requirements Standing and walking, keyboard operation, clear speaking voice and hearing normal speech level – 75% or more. Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1‑25lb – 50% of the time. Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step‑stool, reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25‑50lb, grasping/squeezing, hearing whispered speech level – 25% of the time. Climbing stairs – 10% of the time. Operating a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers – occasionally. Basic to intermediate computer skills, specifically electronic medical records system and MS Office. Schedule: 36 hours per week. Shift: Third Shift (1900‑0730).
