Description Join IIMC as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Indiana Internal Medicine Consultants (IIMC) is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join our team at our Greenwood, Indiana location. This is a great opportunity for a laboratory professional looking for a consistent Monday - Friday schedule in a physician practice setting. In this role, you'll play an important part in supporting our clinical team by performing laboratory testing and helping provide timely, accurate results that support patient care. REPORTS TO: Laboratory Director FLSA: Non-Exempt Environment: Outpatient, clinical care setting COMPENSATION MLT Hourly Range: $19.00 - $29.00 (based on years of experience) MLS Hourly Range: $21.00 - $35.00 (based on years of experience) BENEFITS Medical benefits including vision and dental 401k profit sharing plan eligible after one year and 1,000 hours Vacation and PTO IIMC PAID Holidays - no reduction from personal leave buckets DUTIES PERFORMED Constantly performs diagnostic laboratory procedures manually and using specialized laboratory equipment in all areas of the laboratory including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and serology. Frequently recognizes critical results and reports them to the ordering or on-call physician. Constantly maintains complete records of all tests performed and all test results. Constantly performs quality control by performing established control testing procedures. Frequently prepares the required reagents. Occasionally performs minor trouble‑shooting and preventive maintenance on equipment and instruments and maintains proper records. Evaluates daily quality control records for failures and takes appropriate actions. Occasionally assists in training new employees and students. Frequently takes part in proficiency testing surveys by evaluating unknown materials. Occasionally takes part in surveys by evaluating unknown materials. Assists phlebotomy with technical questions and reception duties Deliver exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming and respectful experience for every patient, addressing questions and concerns promptly, accessing patient records as appropriate to assist with inquiries, and connecting patients with the appropriate team member when additional assistance is needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Works independently following established procedures and policies Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage multiple priorities Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent attention to detail; errors with mislabeling samples could cause error in diagnosis and treatment Exercise proper judgement on cost effectiveness of department and quality of patient laboratory diagnosis Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, management, staff, and contacts outside the organization. Customer service skills EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technology PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to communicate clearly in person, over the phone and via written means. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and to work in environment which can be stressful. Ability to understand and effectively work in Microsoft Outlook, practice management systems, laboratory applications, and electronic medical record system. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a laboratory environment. Frequent contact with patients with the purpose of collecting specimens. Frequent exposure to needles and body fluids. Some exposure to potentially hazardous equipment, caustic chemicals and infectious conditions.
