Application Architect

Austin, TXWestern Union is seeking an Application Architect with 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying scalable applications and microservices-based solutions. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on software engineering experience, a solid understanding of cloud-native architectures, and a passion for solving business challenges through technology. This role partners with engineering, product, and business teams to design effective solutions, improve application performance, and support the adoption of modern development practices, including AI-assisted software development tools.Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Western Union will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.Role ResponsibilitiesHands-on coding architect working with engineering and business partners to define and build out complex solutions driving value through business process simplification, automation and new product capabilities and AI-driven innovationsDemonstrate strong capabilities in assessing business needs while providing creative and effective solutions aligned with modern AI and data-driven technology standardsProduct solutioning end-to-end new innovations, including embedding AI capabilities into core product workflows with iterative improvementsSupport and contribute to developer productivity initiatives.Strong emphasis on customer journey, product quality, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and continuous developmentApply established engineering best practices and leverage AI-assisted development tools.Proven ability to improve developer productivity through AI-assisted coding practices, including code generation, automated unit test creation, and documentation synthesis.Follow established security, compliance, and development standards.Familiarity with integrating AI tools into developer workflows (IDEs, CI/CD pipelines, code review systems)Awareness of emerging AI development tools and practices.Role RequirementsBS in Computer Science or related fields with 5+ years of professional experience or MS with 3+ years of experience or equivalent work experience.Proven ability to understand business and ability to contribute to technology direction that drives measurable business improvementsDemonstrated capabilities in assessing business needs while providing creative and effective solutions in conformance to emerging technology standardsExperience with architecture design concepts and techniques and the ability to communicate and evangelize those concepts to internal stakeholders and external partnersExcellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, OOPs, and OOA/DDemonstrated experience in programming languages (for example, Java/Python) and design patternsHands-on experience in building microservices based architecture and platform developed and deployed at scalePreferred Qualifications:Experience in Financial Services domainExperience working with global teams in delivering solutions for APAC, EMEA, LATAM, and North AmericaWork ShiftHYBRID - Western Union values in-person collaboration, problem solving, and ideation whenever possible.
