Department Supervisor

General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. They are responsible for opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and supervising Company operational processes as needed. Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments Prioritizes safety and practices safe behaviors in all activities. Maintains awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone. Corrects or reports any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership. Responsible for building security including entrance/exit control, Electronic Article Surveillance checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area security. Ensures clean and clear egress to emergency exits and maintains safety of the environment. Represents the Company brand and maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the Dress Code. Maintains a clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised Store; responsible for daily trash removal. Responds to after‑hours alarms when requested. Customer Service Treats all Customers, Associates, and leaders with respect, courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism. Recognizes Associates using Company recognition programs. Represents and supports the Company brand at all times and ensures Associates adhere to the Company Dress Code. Maintains a well‑maintained, clean, and merchandised Store environment. General Merchandising Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards. Receives merchandise truck when needed and processes all merchandise with urgency. Handles non‑merchandise inbound deliveries and maintains cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms. Assists with placement of merchandise on the sales floor and ensures back‑stock is secured and processed according to Company policy. Maintains compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area; executes floor moves, promotional signing, and re‑wraps as required. Loss Prevention Understands and complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintains a strong Customer service presence on the sales floor. Safeguards confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise; ensures proper monitoring and handling. Maintains Public View Monitor system and conducts package inspections. Executes Company Best Practices to maximize productivity and minimize loss. Front End Supervision and Operations Ensures Associates execute to Company standards at the front end and maintains pace, energy, and presence. Manages the line to expedite Customer wait times and coaches associates on cash register procedures, shortage control, and frontend policies. Controls Associates’ break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks. Maintains equipment functionality and supplies for the front end area. Ensures go‑backs are expedited, scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed. Taught Associates “Scan and Bag” best practice. Ensures salient merchandise is appropriately displayed at the front end and specialty racks. Fitting Rooms Maintains and cleans Fitting Rooms. Audits and accounts for all fitting room garment tags. Ensures go‑back compliance and that any returned merchandise is ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security‑tagged as needed. Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager Conducts cash pulls and bank deposits according to Company policy. Controls front end as needed. Understands and adheres to refund approval, Associate purchase approval, securing tills and cash, register payments, void approval, register media, and break schedules policies. Manages payroll administration including daily punch edits, Associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting. Performs additional duties as assigned by Store Manager. Competencies Manages work processes, business acumen, and planning. Aligns, prioritizes, builds talent, collaborates, and leads by example. Communicates effectively and ensures accountability and execution. Qualifications and Special Skills Required Excellent verbal communication skills; fluency in English. Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred. Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations common in retail environments. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Physical Requirements/ADA Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC. Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store. Ability to bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly. Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
