Direct Counsel is seeking an experienced Senior Real Estate Associate or Special Counsel with 6+ years of law firm experience to join a market-leading and growing commercial real estate practice in New York or Washington, D.C.

This opportunity is specifically focused on “dirt” commercial real estate transactions , making it an excellent fit for an attorney with substantial experience handling acquisitions, dispositions, and borrower-side real estate financings .

Position Overview

The Senior Real Estate Associate / Special Counsel will work on sophisticated commercial real estate transactions with a particular emphasis on traditional “dirt” real estate work .

The ideal candidate will have significant experience representing clients in commercial property acquisitions and dispositions , as well as borrower-side financing transactions , and will be comfortable taking substantial responsibility for complex matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle sophisticated commercial real estate transactions .
• Represent clients in acquisitions and dispositions of commercial real estate assets.
• Advise borrowers in connection with commercial real estate financing transactions .
• Draft, review, and negotiate transaction documents relating to acquisitions, dispositions, and financings.
• Manage significant aspects of transactions from initial structuring and diligence through negotiation and closing .
• Coordinate transaction execution and communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and other deal participants.
• Collaborate with attorneys across a sophisticated and growing real estate practice.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant law firm experience .
• Significant “dirt” commercial real estate transactional experience .
• Substantial experience with commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions .
• Meaningful borrower-side real estate finance experience .
• Comparable sophisticated law firm experience.
• Outstanding academic credentials.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and transaction-management abilities.

Compensation

Base Salary: $390,000–$435,000 , depending on experience, seniority, qualifications, and other applicable factors.

The current associate salary scale includes:

• 6th Year: $390,000
• 7th Year: $420,000
• 8th Year: $435,000

Compensation for candidates considered at the Special Counsel level will depend on experience and qualifications.
