Staff Scientist, Research and Development

Staff Scientist position in research and development at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Analytical Instruments Group, located in Sunnyvale, California. The role involves leading advanced research on next-generation chromatography and electrochemical technologies, translating scientific innovations into manufacturable products, and providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead advanced research and development in ion chromatography, electrolytic devices, and electrochemistry
- Direct new product development programs from early-stage concepts through commercialization
- Design and develop prototypes, conduct functional testing, optimization, and manufacturability assessments
- Conduct root cause and countermeasure investigations for new and on-market products
- Mentor scientists and engineers while providing technical guidance to strengthen team capabilities
Requirements
- PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with 8+ years relevant experience
- Master's degree in related scientific discipline with 10+ years relevant experience
- Hands-on experience with ion chromatography, HPLC, or analytical separation technologies
- Deep knowledge of electrochemistry, analytical detection methods, and ion-exchange materials
- Demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects through product development and commercialization
- Strong ability to design experiments, analyze data, and perform root-cause analysis on technical problems
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
