Supplemental Pediatric Hospitalist

Description

The Department of Pediatrics at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato Minnesota is seekinga board certified/eligible pediatrician/pediatric hospitalist to join a physician-led organization in a community practice on a supplemental (as needed) basis. This position is solely inpatient. Hospitalists stay in-house. Shifts are 24 hours in length.

Overview of Role:

Physicians will work both independently and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team to assess diagnose manage and evaluate the health care needs of neonates infants and children. Physicians in this position will care for patients affected by prematurity respiratory distress infectious diseases congenital heart disease and/or other anomalies. Clinical responsibilities include attendance at deliveries (including high-risk) resuscitation of newborns care of healthy newborns day-to-day management of babies in the Level II Nursery and care of hospitalized children. Procedures performed include circumcisions umbilical central lines lumbar punctures frenulectomies intubations and emergent needle decompression of pneumothorax.

Services Provided:

Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato has over 1500 deliveries per year the largest number of deliveries in the Mayo Clinic Health System. Mankato has the only Level II Nursery within 80 miles and provides care to premature babies and other newborns requiring special care due to low birth weight respiratory distress or various other disorders. Babies requiring care in a NICU are transferred to Rochester or Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Collaborative/Supportive Partnerships:

The pediatric inpatient team is composed of pediatric hospitalists and advanced practice providers (APPs). The APPs assist with care of normal newborns. The Mayo Clinic pediatric subspecialists in Rochester provide a ready source of support and consultation. The Electronic Delivery Room platform (eDR) provides immediate electronic connectivity to Rochester neonatologists 24/7 via remote video guidance.

Mankato:

Mankato is one of the largest cities in southern MN and has earned several livability awards. Mankatos economic growth leads Minnesota and is among the top in the nation. The city has a contiguous population area of over 101000 people and is centrally located in south central Minnesota nestled in the scenic beauty of the Minnesota River Valley with convenient access to Minneapolis-St. Paul just one hour away. The City of Mankato is renowned for great parks and trails. Rivers lakes ravines bluffs natural prairies and forested areas offer breathtaking landscapes and provide a scenic backdrop for an area steeped in historic significance. At the same time Mankatoans enjoy peace of mind and quality of life often associated with smaller towns.

The city blends activities for all ages and interest levels. Mankatos civic center has hosted nationally touring ice shows music concerts and theatre productions as well as supported local events. Candidates must be board certified / board eligible with the American Board of Pediatrics and be licensed or eligible to be licensed in the state of will possess the ability to work independently/autonomously and interdependently with other health care professionals. Extensive patient assessment skills using diagnostic methods and instruments are required as is the ability to develop appropriate plans of care modifying as indicated. Candidates will possess effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with patients families and members of health care team.
