Assistant Director of Financial Aid

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid plays a key role in supporting students and families through the financial aid process at the College. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, this position is responsible for awarding and disbursing federal, state, and institutional aid, counseling students on funding options, and serving as the College's Federal Work-Study Coordinator. The Assistant Director works closely with students, families, faculty, and staff to ensure accurate, compliant, and student-centered financial aid administration, and represents the office at state and regional professional gatherings. Key Responsibilities Position Overview The Assistant Director of Financial Aid plays a key role in supporting students and families through the financial aid process at the College. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, this position is responsible for awarding and disbursing federal, state, and institutional aid, counseling students on funding options, and serving as the College's Federal Work-Study Coordinator. The Assistant Director works closely with students, families, faculty, and staff to ensure accurate, compliant, and student-centered financial aid administration, and represents the office at state and regional professional gatherings. Key Responsibilities Process and award federal, state and institutional aid in accordance with regulatory and institutional guidelines. Counsel current and prospective students and families on financial aid options, FAFSA application requirements, and award decisions via email, phone, virtual and in-person meetings throughout the enrollment process. Manage FAFSA verification for assigned students, including outreach, collection, and processing of verification worksheets and supporting documentation. Serve as the Federal Work-Study Coordinator: post job openings, process student applications, approve contracts, and maintain communication with campus supervisors. Prepare and submit all required federal work-study reporting. Balance and reconcile work-study payroll on a bi-weekly basis. Represent the Financial Aid Office at professional meetings, including VASFAA conferences and CICV meetings as appropriate. Participate in outreach events, new student orientations, and returning student check-ins to support enrollment and retention efforts. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the university’s and financial aid office's enrollment goals. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. A minimum of three years of higher education financial aid experience or related work. Preferred Qualifications Five or more years of experience in financial aid administration. Graduate degree. Experience working with Ellucian Colleague or a comparable student information system. Please note: Background checks are required for all positions.
