Summary This position is located at the Maintenance Support Division, which is part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Millington, TN. Incumbents are under direct supervision of the Maintenance Director. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of facilities and maintenance duties in support of the Naval Support Activity Mid-South. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc. Moves heavy boxes or cartons by hand, truck, or dolly. where directed. Opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears. Stacks boxes and cartons or cartons where directed. Using a shovel, digs ditches where grading and sloping is not required. Fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places using shovel, hand tamper, and rake. Runs hand and powered (walking, type) lawnmowers which do not require very heavy physical effort. Clears small tress and brushes using hatchet, handsaw, or clipper. Moves and arranges furniture as directed. May shovel snow, sand, or dirt from sidewalks. Collects and empties garbage cans, burns garbage, and trash. Washes and waxes cars and trucks by hand or using powered buffer. Performs other duties as assigned. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Knowledge of safe and efficient operating techniques of various large equipment and power tools: (Operates a variety of power equipment to include, but not limited to: posthole diggers, blowers, weed eaters, power washers, mowers, box trucks with lift gate, etc.) Ability to operate and control riding mowers on slopes which requires constant attention to working space and environment. Ability to safely operate equipment around buildings, walls, trees, fence lines, banks and hillsides, trenches, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles. Ability to operate various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift/lower, adjust, engage/disengage components or attached devices. Knowledge and skill using hand tools and other equipment such as: shovels, rakes, hammers, bars, saws, axes, loppers, wrenches, brushes, brooms, ladders, banding equipment, and pallet jacks. Ability to complete assignments involving several tasks by following detailed processes which require remembering directions, sequences, following simple drawings, etc. Ability to follow general instructions or read simple drawings to perform tasks requiring significant manual skill.
