Commissioning Agent
$90k - $120kSteen Engineering Inc
Reports To: Mechanical Principal-in-Charge Location: Minneapolis, MN
Anticipated Starting Salary: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00/yr Your Purpose in This Key Role Steen Engineering is seeking an experienced Commissioning Agent to help ensure the systems we design and support perform exactly as intended-from initial startup through long-term operation. This role serves as a key technical partner to project teams, contractors, building owners, and design professionals, helping bridge the gap between design intent and real-world building performance. Our ideal candidate is a curious, proactive problem solver who enjoys digging into complex systems, collaborating with diverse project stakeholders, and delivering results that clients can see and feel. This individual will lead commissioning activities across a variety of project types, validating system performance, troubleshooting challenges, and helping ensure every project reflects the quality, responsiveness, and practical expertise that define The Steen Way. Beyond technical execution, this role offers the opportunity to build lasting client relationships, mentor emerging professionals, and contribute to the continued growth of Steen's commissioning practice. If you're someone who takes pride in making buildings work better-and enjoys partnering with others to solve tough challenges along the way-you'll find meaningful opportunities to grow and make an impact here.
We Make It Work At Steen Engineering, commissioning isn't a final checkbox at the end of a project. It's how we ensure systems perform as intended, buildings operate efficiently, and clients receive the quality they were promised. We're looking for an experienced Commissioning Agent who enjoys solving problems, collaborating with project teams, and seeing projects through from concept to successful operation. You'll work alongside engineers, contractors, owners, and architects to validate performance, troubleshoot challenges, and ensure critical building systems are operating exactly as designed. If you're looking for a role where technical expertise, practical problem-solving, and client relationships are equally valued, you'll find plenty of opportunities to grow at Steen.
Why This Role Matters The most successful projects don't end when construction is complete-they begin when systems perform reliably in the real world. As a Commissioning Agent at Steen, you'll play a critical role in protecting building performance, supporting project success, and strengthening client trust. You'll help bridge the gap between design intent and operational reality, ensuring that mechanical systems, controls, and equipment function safely, efficiently, and as intended. Your work directly impacts:
The Right Fit for Team Steen We're looking for someone who embodies the values that define Team Steen. You'll thrive here if you're humble enough to listen, hardworking enough to dig in when challenges arise, and smart enough to find practical solutions that move projects forward. You take ownership, communicate openly, and aren't afraid to step into difficult situations to help a client or teammate succeed. You believe that responsiveness matters, relationships matter, and that great engineering isn't just about design-it's about making it work.
What You'll Love About Steen Work That Leaves a Lasting Impact You'll help ensure buildings, systems, and spaces operate as intended long after construction is complete. Your work will directly improve performance, reliability, efficiency, and occupant experience. Real Ownership and Visibility At Steen, your contributions won't disappear into layers of bureaucracy. You'll have direct access to leadership, meaningful responsibility, and the opportunity to shape projects, client relationships, and the future of our commissioning practice. A Team That Shows Up We're known for our responsiveness, partnership, and willingness to tackle difficult challenges. We support one another, share knowledge freely, and take pride in doing things the right way. Room to Grow Whether your goal is to deepen your technical expertise, strengthen your project leadership skills, expand your client relationships, or grow into a future business leader, Steen offers the mentorship, autonomy, and opportunities to help you get there. Apply today and help us continue delivering the smart, sensible, and sustainable solutions our clients have trusted for more than 30 years.
