Tourist Marketing Coordinator

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in tourism, public relations, business administration, hotel/restaurant management, marketing, journalism, or a related program AND one year of graphic design experience; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience. Applicants within six months of meeting the minimum education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status. Valid Florida Driver License required. Motor Vehicle Record must meet Alachua County policy #6‑7. If, in the past 24 months, the record has more than three moving traffic infractions, three or more at‑fault motor vehicle accidents (or a combination of both), or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence, the minimum qualifications are not met. Successful completion of all applicable background checks pre‑hire and ongoing. Proven experience designing logos, multi‑page booklets, brochures, and both print and digital ads. Experience creating original, scroll‑stopping content for social media. Ability to build and manage pages using WordPress. Strong writing and editing skills across platforms. Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects). Understanding of integrated marketing and ability to track performance to optimize campaigns. Experience working collaboratively in a fast‑paced creative environment. Professional design experience is essential. Responsibilities Manage a program in tourist development, ensuring implementation and prescribed activities align with departmental and county objectives. Project management and communication, including writing, editing, and graphic design to create content and collateral for marketing, advertising, and public relations initiatives and other tourism‑related projects. Plan and create social media posts and reels that yield followers and engagement on the Visit Gainesville social media platforms. Utilize advanced proficiency in writing and editing to produce marketing, advertising, and public relations materials across diverse formats. Design various marketing materials to promote tourism to Alachua County. Work with third‑party vendors for video and photographic services. Stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in communications and design, contributing innovative ideas to enhance the effectiveness of tourism marketing strategies. Review reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specific tourist development program objectives. Create reports that demonstrate campaign effectiveness and key performance metrics. Contribute to and adhere to the editorial and publishing calendar; assist in creating media pitches and editorial submissions that increase the exposure of Visit Gainesville. Maintain an organized video and photo assets library and obtain/maintain/organize all image and content rights releases. Assist with the marketing plan for Alachua County Tourist Development. Maintain an accurate calendar of conferences, conventions, meetings, major sporting events, university, city, and county events. Develop and/or assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of tourist development program‑related computer programs. Drive county and/or personal vehicle to perform required duties. Perform the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency. This role is an emergency essential classification; upon declaration of a disaster or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work. Exude a positive customer service focus and advocate building organizational culture through aligning decisions with the county’s core values. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Expert knowledge of Adobe Suite and current design software, skilled in every step of the design process from concept to final deliverable. Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and web analytics. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and content management systems. Thorough knowledge of current practices and principles of the tourist development program. Working knowledge of the county hotel and motel facilities, and public and private attractions and services. Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to the tourist development program. Strong attention to detail; excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to be creative and think outside the box. Ability to develop and implement operating policies and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, contractors, local business owners, and elected officials. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to prepare and organize written reports. Ability to generate necessary paperwork in accordance with local and state ordinances. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet tight deadlines. Ability to work independently with limited review. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
