Job Description

The competent nurse, in a perioperative setting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of patient care. This role involves providing routine and complex care, developing long-range goals, and managing clinical contingencies.

Responsibilities

• Meets expectations of the applicable One CHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their level of practice.
• Administers medications and treatments according to protocol; monitors for side effects and effectiveness of treatment.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care given.
• Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and resources.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related nursing specialty preferred.
• Current BLS certification required (AHA only).
• Current ACLS certification required (AHA only).
• Current PALS certification required (AHA only).
• RN License in the state of Texas or compact.
• Perioperative RN Residency or recent practice in an OR/Perioperative setting preferred.
