About This Job This position, Maintenance Repairer 1-2, is responsible for the maintenance of facilities and equipment. All work must conform to Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority- East (SLFPA-E) policies, procedures, and accepted safety practices. Overview Of The Role The Maintenance Repairer 1-2 performs tasks on site within Orleans, East Jefferson, and St. Bernard Parishes. Incumbents may receive job assignments and instructions from a foreman, leader, or other supervisor of a higher classification. This position performs at the experienced level. Minimum Qualifications One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, engineering, or any combination of these courses. Job Duties Assist by performing facility inspections and making repairs to buildings, grounds, outbuildings, street lighting, and mechanical equipment such as a/c and heat systems. Work with the a/c & heat system and perform the detailed daily routine of checking and recording all chillers, water towers, and air handler units, including pumps for chilled water and cooling tower water, checking gauges for proper pressures and temperatures for optimum operational use. Make records and perform adjustments as needed; conduct monthly filter cleaning/change and annual preventive maintenance routines, including maintenance on ice makers and shop equipment. Provide plumbing services, including minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and quarterly inspections of flood control valves; prepare valve maintenance inspection reports, exercising knowledge of plumbing code requirements and actuator operation. Work with the electrician department and assist in maintaining all equipment in good working order, changing bulbs/ballasts, troubleshooting, and determining safety. Work on overhead lighting, street lighting, portable lighting (for emergencies), sea wall lighting, and cross walk lighting. Must be trained to operate a forklift and man lift properly. NOTE The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of its mission is to protect the residents of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard, and eastern Orleans from tidal surge, wind-driven water, and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane/Tropical storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if required and remain on duty until released.
