The Project Engineer supports all phases of project execution for industrial and commercial design-build projects, from initial planning and design coordination through project closeout. This role works closely with project managers, superintendents, and design partners to keep projects organized, on schedule, and aligned with overall objectives. The Project Engineer leverages established systems and processes to coordinate activities, track progress, and facilitate successful outcomes for large warehouse and manufacturing facility projects.

Responsibilities

• Support all stages of project execution, including planning, design coordination, construction, and project closeout for commercial and industrial facilities.

• Prepare, coordinate, and oversee municipal permitting, entitlement, and planning-related documentation to support timely project approvals.

• Monitor the progress of engineering reviews and permit approvals, following up with agencies and stakeholders to keep the approval process on track.

• Maintain accurate records of project drawings, revisions, bulletins, and other construction-related documentation to ensure version control and traceability.

• Coordinate the preparation and collection of project closeout materials, including final documentation and turnover packages for owners and stakeholders.

• Capture key discussion points, action items, and decisions from project meetings, and distribute clear, concise meeting summaries to project stakeholders.

• Serve as a professional representative of the company by maintaining effective communication with owners, consultants, subcontractors, and community stakeholders.

• Coordinate subcontractors, including organizing weekly subcontractor meetings, tracking commitments, and ensuring alignment with project plans and schedules.

• Track material orders and deliveries to support timely procurement and avoid construction delays.

• Manage and track construction drawings, updates, and revisions, ensuring that the project team and subcontractors work from current documents.

• Assist with construction management activities, collaborating with project managers and superintendents to support day-to-day project execution.

• Work closely with design partners to support design-build delivery, helping integrate design intent with construction feasibility.

• Identify project challenges proactively, assess potential impacts, and contribute practical solutions to mitigate risks and support successful execution.

• Maintain high documentation standards, organizing project files and records to support transparency, compliance, and efficient project handoffs.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a project engineering function for commercial or industrial construction projects.

• Experience working for a general contractor and managing multiple projects concurrently.

• Background in construction, with exposure to commercial construction, industrial construction, and design-build delivery.

• Demonstrated experience in subcontractor coordination and subcontractor management.

• Proficiency in tracking material orders and managing drawing logs, including revisions and bulletins.

• Ability to prepare, manage, and maintain planning documents, entitlement packages, and drawing revisions.

• High attention to detail with strong documentation standards and organizational skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with owners, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.

• Ability to capture and summarize key points, decisions, and action items from project meetings and distribute them effectively.

• Capability to identify project challenges proactively and contribute practical, solutions-focused recommendations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a design-build environment, particularly with industrial and commercial facilities such as warehouses and manufacturing plants.

• Familiarity with construction management practices and processes within a general contracting setting.

• Comfort working in a collaborative environment alongside project managers, superintendents, and design partners.

• Interest in career growth, with the opportunity to develop into a Project Manager role over time.

• Ability to manage relationships with repeat clients and support multi-phase project portfolios.

Work Environment

This is a salaried position based primarily in an office environment, with approximately 95% of the work performed in-office and about 5% onsite for weekly subcontractor meetings lasting 34 hours. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility. The culture is collaborative, with close interaction among project engineers, project managers, superintendents, and design partners on high-visibility industrial design-build projects. The firm maintains a stable, long-term project portfolio with repeat clients and multi-phase builds. A monthly car allowance may be available depending on location and candidate profile.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $95000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
