In House Only Applicants (Tribal Members and Employees currently working within a Kickapoo Entity) Position: Childcare Caregiver Supervisor: Childcare Supervisor Division: Tribal Education Administration Department: Daycare Responsibilities In general, a Childcare Caregiver will maintain safe and stimulating surroundings for young children under the KTTT Tribal Education Daycare, this program typically reports to the Childcare Supervisor, in the absence of the Child Care Manager the position will report to designated supervisor staff. Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following Arrange activities for children and provide them with a chance to explore, learn, and grow in a positive environment. Assist in other projects as assigned by the Lead Caregiver, Supervisor, or Program Director. Assist in the formation of a classroom setting conducive to learning and suitable to the physical, social, and emotional growth of students. Assist the Lead Caregiver in planning and carrying out classroom activities. Assist volunteers assigned to the same classroom. Be responsible for housekeeping tasks to maintain the order of the child care. Come up with creative and educational activities, preparing and serving snacks to children and maintain a clean environment for the children. Communicate regularly with parents through daily greetings, verbal and written comments on children’s daily charts (infant and toddler rooms), and annual parent conferences. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, courteous, positive, and responsible, and serve as a role model for all district staff and students. Demonstrate good judgment when planning for children’s safety and health. Demonstrate insight into child and adult behavior. Ensure each child receives individual attention. Exhibit flexibility and a sense of humor. Follow all directives, practices, procedures, rules, regulations, and policies of Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas and Daycare and follow directives from superiors. Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor. Follow policies and procedures for the operation of the Daycare. Help children with toileting or diapering needs. May involve lifting children up to 40lbs. In the classroom work, under the guidance/supervision of the Lead Caregiver assist with curriculum and daily lesson plans that are suitable for the child’s age, stage and personal interest. Maintain a developmentally appropriate environment for the children at all times. Maintain cooperative and productive relationships with other center staff. Maintain current CPR and First Aid certificate. Maintain the standards set by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Daycare. Must adhere to minimum safety requirements of the program. Must comply with center policies, procedures, and practices. Must document all incident regarding child safety. Must report any concerns related to child abuse and neglect to appropriate authorities and supervisor. Observe and report any hazardous conditions of the building, grounds or equipment to supervisor. Participate in training and professional development opportunities established by the program and provided by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Daycare. Present a good role model to children with language use, both verbal and written. Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self-disciplined. Respond to and interact with children in their play environments and at the child’s eye level. Responsible for documenting incidents or health concerns using applicable forms and to the designated management person. Responsible for the well-being of the children under their care. Share the responsibility for the arrangement, cleaning and maintenance of the room and equipment. Supervise the children at all times. Observe and monitor groups of children indoors and outdoors year-round, assuring their health and safety. Treat conversations and information with confidentiality regarding children, parents and other staff. Understand Developmentally Appropriate Practices. Understand growth and development of assigned age group. Use portfolio system as the primary means of gathering and organizing developmental data on child’s growth as applicable. Utilize time well and is organized. Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and high standard of quality in center for as applicable for designated service population. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor or management. Knowledge, skills and abilities for the position Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment. Ability to manage and maintain security of confidential data and information. Ability to manage flexible hours. Ability to perform simple arithmetic for time-keeping and counting calculations. Ability to provide written documentation as applicable for the program. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, Kickapoo and Spanish, and communicate effectively with others. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction. Advanced multitasking and organizational skills to handle multiple children at a time. Attention to detail and accuracy. Be punctual Caring and compassionate attitude when interacting with and caring for children Cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life. Evidence of enjoying working and interaction with children. Kind and even tempered. Knowledge and implementation of KTTT Standards and Guidelines. Knowledge of Minimum Standards Rules for the State of Texas for child care facilities Knowledge of safety issues concerning infants and children. Knowledge of the developmental needs of the children in their care and for their ability to respond appropriately to these needs promote a healthy and safe child-care environment Knowledge of working in an early childhood setting. Positive attitude. Strong organizational, communication, and inter-personal skills. Strong verbal communication and listening skills to converse with children, fellow co-workers, parents or guardians. Supervision exercised This position does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Education/experience requirements Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or high school equivalent diploma with 1 year of experience in Childcare or related field. Or Working towards a Child Development Associate (CDA) with experience in child care or related field Or Some related early educational background/ or experience. Preferred Qualifications: Child Development Associate (CDA) or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development or another related field with 3 years of experience in Child Care or related field.
