Join Our Team As A Firefighter/EMTAll candidates will need either a CPAT or complete the In-house physical abilities test to be considered for a position. Acts as a professional member of the pre-hospital emergency care team in providing proper comprehensive basic life support treatment, care, and transportation. General firefighting work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires and protecting life and property.Essential Job FunctionsPerforms orderly and systematic evaluations and examinations of scenes and patients. Provides care, treatment, and transportation of patients in accordance with the knowledge and skills of a Registered Emergency Medical Technician. Responds to emergencies with fire or rescue companies and performs related functions as required. Drives and operates apparatus as assigned. May be assigned duties as acting driver engineer. Is subject to emergency call-back as part of the regular duty. Completes reports and records and operates radios according to system standards and guidelines. Ensures that all supplies, equipment, and apparatus are sufficient, operational and properly maintained. Reports deficiencies to supervisor immediately. Performs maintenance chores of quarters, station, and grounds. Attends and participates in company drills and training sessions. Performs related work as required.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of practices and procedures in accordance with U.S. DOT EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum for the EMT.Ability to gain knowledge of the street system and geography.Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn and operate relatively complex equipment.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to perform prolonged and difficult work under adverse conditions.Ability to learn a wide variety of duties and methods within a reasonable training period.Ability and willingness to learn new methods and techniques.Minimum RequirementsPhysical skills/working conditions: Position requires climbing ladders, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and running. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Special requirements: Positions are filled on an as-needed basis. No phone calls please. Must be a nonuser of tobacco or tobacco products for at least one year immediately preceding application, as defined in FS633.34. Education, training and experience: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Licenses, certifications or registrations: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Qualified applicants selected for interview are REQUIRED to bring copies of their lifetime driving history; Current registration by the State of Florida as an EMT; Current certification by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety & Health Institute in BLS or ACLS; Certificate of Compliance from the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training; Social Security Card. (Copies are required to be submitted at time of interview). Employees shall obtain dual certification as a Florida State Certified Firefighter/Paramedic within thirty-six (36) months from date of hire.
