The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region caters to approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.

As a Registered Nurse, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. It is essential to communicate the patient's clinical status appropriately, responding swiftly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles throughout the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions with colleagues. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing school and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
• Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery, particularly assisting with C-sections, is mandatory.

COMPETENCIES:

• Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written, along with basic computer proficiency, are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competencies:

• Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients’ conditions and care needs, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to define, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for each surgical patient based on assessment data.
• Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize the risk of medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their proper administration according to the patient's age and clinical condition, while following Surgical Services policies for medication safety.
• Provide all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes patient safety and promotes positive outcomes, adhering to policies regarding Patient Identification, Surgical & Invasive Procedures Site Identification, and Time-Out protocols.
• Document the nursing process and responses to care promptly using the appropriate tools.
• Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively under stress, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
• Demonstrate autonomous practice in line with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional growth while serving as a role model and mentor.
• Understand growth and development principles across the lifespan, providing age-appropriate care and interpreting data to identify each patient’s specific needs.
• Deliver accurate and relevant reports on patients’ conditions for safe transitions of care.
• Prepare surgical rooms promptly with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each procedure.
• Maintain aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, identifying and communicating any breaches to the surgical team and assisting with corrective measures.
• Effectively communicate with the surgeon regarding the accounting of sponges, needles, and instruments, reporting any discrepancies immediately and documenting all counts appropriately.
• Accurately record, handle, label, and process specimens.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the scrub role.
