Director of Student Development and Family Engagement

Overall Objectives
Provides leadership for Yinghua Academy's student development, family engagement, English academic instruction, and student support programs. The Director of Student Development and Family Engagement works collaboratively with school leadership, teachers, staff, students, and families to promote academic success, positive student development, student well-being, and a safe and supportive school environment. This position provides instructional leadership for Yinghua's English academic program while also overseeing student support systems, family engagement, behavioral support, school safety, and designated student programs. The position advances Yinghua Academy's mission, core values, and guiding principles.
Principal Roles & Responsibilities
- Provides instructional leadership for the school's English academic program, including English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Reading Intervention, English Learner (EL) programming, and other assigned instructional programs.
- Works with Academic Directors to coach, evaluate, and support instructional staff and conducts regular classroom observations to promote instructional excellence and professional growth.
- Leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, instructional practices, and academic programs to strengthen instructional effectiveness and student achievement.
- Collaborates with the Academic Team to implement and strengthen Yinghua Academy's Literacy Plan.
- Utilizes student achievement data, benchmark assessments, classroom observations, and instructional technology systems to evaluate instructional effectiveness, guide decision-making, and improve student outcomes.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director and other school leadership to establish academic priorities, annual goals, and instructional initiatives.
- Researches and recommends instructional resources, curriculum materials, technology tools, and best practices to improve student achievement.
- Participates in strategic planning related to academics and long-term school improvement.
- Collaborates with the Academic Directors to ensure consistency across the school's bilingual instructional program and supports/promotes Yinghua Academy's Mandarin immersion model, charter school mission, and educational programs.
- Oversees the English Learner (EL) program and supports students and families who require language access services.
- Oversees academic improvement programs, including ADSIS, academic interventions, and READ Act assessments.
- Oversees implementation of Yinghua’s Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
- Helps develop and provides feedback for the annual academic calendar related to instructional programming, benchmark assessments, and report card timelines.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers, interventionists, Special Education, and Student Support staff to ensure students receive appropriate instructional supports.
- Oversees technology implementation from an instructional perspective, supporting effective integration of digital learning tools into classroom instruction.

Student Development & Behavioral Support
- Promotes a positive school climate by establishing, communicating, and supporting clear behavioral expectations for students.
- Provides educational lessons, activities, and guidance that promote positive behavior, responsibility, self‑discipline, healthy decision‑making, and positive student development.
- Supports teachers, students, and families in addressing behavioral concerns; coordinates appropriate interventions and develops student support and behavior plans in collaboration with relevant staff.
- Provides direct support and guidance to students who need assistance with organization, study skills, self‑management, decision‑making, or other areas affecting academic and personal success.
- Collaborates with Special Education, counseling, intervention, and student support teams to develop preventative strategies and coordinated supports for students.
- Maintains accurate documentation of significant behavior incidents
