Senior Legal Billing Specialist

Overview Growing national law firm seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Legal Billing Specialist to join their team in Indianapolis. The role supports the accounting department with accurate and timely processing of client invoices in accordance with client billing guidelines, attorney instructions, and firm policies. Responsibilities Generate and process prebills according to the firm’s established procedures and timelines. Interpret billing instructions, seeking clarification as needed. Ensure compliance with clients’ billing guidelines, fee agreements, and firm policies. Deliver invoices accurately and timely, including submission of e-bills. Maintain billing instructions and relevant details within the accounting system. Troubleshoot and resolve billing discrepancies using available resources. Collaborate with attorneys, legal assistants, and others to support revenue operations with a client-first approach. Respond to inquiries regarding billing or time/cost entry details. Maintain confidentiality of company and client information. Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance billing expertise and provide mentorship as directed. Contribute to process improvements and special initiatives in support of revenue operations. Handle complex billing scenarios and work with management to establish correct protocols. Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Requirements Advanced knowledge of e-billing vendor requirements and LEDES file formats. Experience with complex billing requirements, such as split billing, multi-payor fee arrangements, e-billing guidelines, and appeals processes. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong situational assessment and organizational skills with attention to detail. Strong numerical skills and the ability to prioritize in a time-sensitive environment. Proven ability to learn new software and web-based applications. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word). Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, including Zoom Workplace. Education & Experience Minimum of 5+ years of legal billing experience, including e-billing. College experience with emphasis in accounting or related field preferred; related work experience may be considered in lieu of education. Proficiency with electronic billing (e-billing) and vendor requirements is required. Proficiency with Surepoint Legal Management System or Aderant is highly desirable.
