Pharmacy Technician II

The Pharmacy Technician II supports medication-use operations within an acute care hospital pharmacy and is responsible for providing a broad range of technical pharmacy services that ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of medications to patients. Working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists and as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the Pharmacy Technician II performs medication preparation, dispensing, compounding, distribution, inventory management, customer service, medication-use technology support, and pharmacy record maintenance activities. This role applies advanced technical knowledge and competency to support inpatient pharmacy operations while promoting patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities include processing medication orders in accordance with established policies and procedures, accurately entering patient and medication information into pharmacy information systems, selecting appropriate drug products, preparing and packaging medications, and affixing labels for pharmacist verification. The Pharmacy Technician II selects, prepares, and distributes medication doses and pharmaceutical supplies to patient care areas while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations governing medication security, storage, handling, and transportation.

The technician maintains medication and supply inventories through routine monitoring, replenishment, stock rotation, and inventory control activities. This includes identifying medication shortages, maintaining established par levels, supporting purchasing activities, and communicating inventory needs to appropriate pharmacy personnel. The role also utilizes pharmacy automation, medication-use technology, and medical informatics systems, including electronic medication order entry, automated dispensing cabinets, barcode medication administration systems, packaging equipment, and other integrated clinical and operational technologies.

The Pharmacy Technician II performs pharmaceutical calculations and prepares compounded medications in accordance with USP, and organizational policies, including non-sterile preparations, sterile compounded products, and hazardous medications, as authorized and appropriate for the practice setting. The technician supports quality assurance, compliance monitoring, and pharmacy audit activities while ensuring adherence to all regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards.

In collaboration with pharmacists and other members of the healthcare team, the Pharmacy Technician II assists in identifying and addressing medication-use issues, supports continuity of patient care, and helps resolve operational and patient-specific medication needs within the scope of practice. The technician may also assist with onboarding, training, and competency development of new team members under the direction of pharmacy leadership, contributing to a culture of learning, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the acute care pharmacy environment.

Education & Experience:

• High School Graduate or equivalent
• Maryland Technician Registration or Maryland Pharmacy Intern Certificate or Pharmacy Student Technician Exemption Certificate is acceptable for students enrolled and in good standing at an accredited School of Pharmacy
• 6 months experience, 1 year preferred

Schedule: 7-days on, 7-days off rotation, working Thursday through Wednesday on scheduled work weeks; 72 hours per pay period. (Hours: 12:30p-11:00p Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues, Wed; 11:30a-11:00p Sat, Sun)

Compensation:

• Pay Range: $21.50-$30.12
