Departmental Overview This unit provides the foundation of the Berkeley IT experience, supporting the entire campus community by delivering critical day-to-day tools and services for everyone to be successful in their work. This group serves as the connector with local IT units to deliver personalized support and high-quality technology services, and as the linkage between the deep array of available IT services and the larger campus community. Position Summary The Enterprise Architect, AI-Integrated Collaboration Services serves as the architect and Continuous Service Improvement lead for the Email and Collaboration Services team ("bConnected"), and as the Unit Security & Unit IT Recovery Lead for all Productivity & Collaboration Services within Berkeley IT's Campus IT Experience department. This position is responsible for defining and advancing the overall technical strategy, architecture, and service roadmap for Berkeley's implementations and integrations across a broad portfolio of enterprise collaboration and productivity services, including AI Chat platforms, Google Workspace, Zoom Workplace, Box, Microsoft 365, and other academic software solutions. The Enterprise Architect, AI-Integrated Collaboration Services provides technical leadership for the design, security, and continuous enhancement of these critical campus-wide services to ensure they remain reliable, scalable, secure, and aligned with institutional needs. A key focus of this role is the introduction, expansion, and governance of AI-enabled services across the Productivity and Collaboration portfolio, leading the evaluation, architecture, implementation, and operationalization of these capabilities to ensure they meet institutional requirements for security, privacy, accessibility, and compliance. Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: 9/1/2026 Responsibilities Solution & Service Design/Re-design - 40% Redesigns and rebuilds configurations, supporting infrastructure, and integrations for existing SaaS collaboration platforms in order to enhance security, usability, and functionality. Initiates, integrates and deploys large scale SaaS collaboration platforms; designs and builds integrations between campus systems and SaaS platforms, or between SaaS platforms. Designs highly complex user systems interfaces, service prototypes and new systems or major enhancements to existing SaaS service offerings to the campus, with a goal to make them as simple as possible to maintain and use. Defines technical architecture, security controls, and recovery requirements for enterprise SaaS and AI-enabled services, including validation and recovery testing. Metrics, Analysis & Evaluation - 35% Performs highly complex feasibility analysis on major projects, for example: multi-platform storage management or reduction, updating integrations to automate account and content lifecycles for all supported products to meet current content retention policies, updating Zoom user sync integrations to allow for the introduction and adoption of new features such as AI, and architecting a new standard for managing building and room information to support Google Calendar and Zoom Room integrations. Gathers information and participates in selection of technical purchases with regard to software as a service (SaaS), data processing, storage, and access, and process automation. Establishes service quality metrics and evaluates results. Recommends artificial intelligence tool selection, performs tool prototyping, testing, and deployment, including use of generative and agentic capabilities. Consultation, Guidance, Advocacy & Engagement - 20% Applies advanced IT architecture concepts to function as the highest-level technical expert to support standard, best practice SaaS deployments across Berkeley IT and serve as a consultant to deployment teams and vendor partners on SaaS deployment considerations. Advises management/leadership on selection of technological purchases with regard to communication, collaboration and productivity SaaS services and the integrations between those systems and campus infrastructure. Engages with multiple institutions across higher education and with vendors to advocate for Berkeley's (and higher education's) needs in the SaaS collaboration space. Consults with key stakeholders and colleagues in relation to AI architecture, unit security, service recovery, and risk remediation and provides guidance to leadership. Ensures unit compliance with MSSND, MSSEI, and UC Minimum Security Standards. Professional Development and Other Duties - 5% Maintains current knowledge of emerging technologies, SaaS collaboration platforms, security practices, AI-enabled services, and higher education IT trends through continuous professional development and industry engagement. Contributes to departmental and campus initiatives and performs other duties as assigned in support of Berkeley IT's strategic objectives. Required Qualifications Extensive knowledge of Software as a Service, identity management, APIs (Application Programming Interface), AI for communication and productivity, and both system and data integrations. Knowledge relating to the selection, implementation, and maintenance of software across the organization. Knowledge of other related areas of IT. Ability to apply department processes and procedures to work and/or the ability to learn. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Skills in artificial intelligence tool selection, prototyping, testing, and deployment, including use of generative and agentic capabilities. Knowledge of network protocols and how they are used on a large (campus / medical center / OP-wide, institution-wide or beyond) network. Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into documented, long-term architecture solutions. Expertise in design and development of integrations and infrastructure to support SaaS services across the organization. Advanced knowledge of data storage, processing, and analysis and how they are used in administrative, medical and / or academic endeavors. Understanding of and experience with key modeling and description languages used to map complex business processes to architectural components, develop common data resource architectures, and create reference frameworks. Experience with the integration of complex, diverse, internally and externally developed implementations of business functions to build scalable systems. Working knowledge of University policies, information-security controls, risk management, business continuity, and IT recovery practices for enterprise SaaS services and/or the ability to learn. Education / Training Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Preferred). This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted annual range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $130,938.48 - $157,000.00. This is an exempt, monthly-paid position. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) Career position eligible for UC benefits. Other Information This position is eligible for up to 5 days/week remote work within the United States. Exact arrangements are determined in partnership with your supervisor to meet role responsibilities and department needs and are subject to change. This is not a visa opportunity.
