Cath Lab Technician

Job Summary:


The Radiology / Cardiology Cath Lab Technician is responsible for assisting providers during diagnostic and interventional radiology and cardiology procedures, primarily in an interventional radiology (IR) setting. The role involves scrubbing and circulating in IR and cardiology procedures, supporting adult and geriatric patients with various cardiac devices and vascular interventions. This position requires strong technical skills, certification in ACLS, BCLS, and ARRT or RCIS, and the ability to respond promptly to urgent and emergent cases while collaborating closely with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities:

• Assist providers during diagnostic and interventional radiology and cardiology procedures.
• Scrub and circulate during IR, Cath Lab, and cardiology procedures.
• Support procedures involving pacemakers (PPM), implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), and vascular interventions.
• Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as GE MAC Lab, Philips iFR/IVUS, Canon and GE Labs, Angio Jet, Pneumbra, EKOS, Inari, CSI Atherectomy System, and others.
• Perform telemetry monitoring and EKG lead placement as needed.
• Collaborate with nursing staff for medication administration, which is performed by RNs only.
• Respond to urgent/emergent cardiology and interventional radiology procedures within designated callback times.
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing training including Dimensions training.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in interventional radiology (90% IR experience required).
• Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, and ARRT or RCIS.
• Skills in scrubbing, circulating, and telemetry monitoring.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Advanced certifications such as ARRT Advanced Cert, RCES, or additional RCIS with medical experience.
• Experience performing EKG lead placement.

Special Considerations:

• RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite.
• Any call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation and Do Not Rehire (DNR) status.
• Technicians start directly on the unit on Mondays until completion of Dimensions training.
• Call requirement: minimum 7 call days per month, typically two call days per week for two weeks and one call weekend per month.
• Callback time: 30 minutes for STEMIs; IR callback time varies by procedure.
• Call team includes three staff members, including one RN.
• No float requirement.
• Weekend requirement: every third weekend.
• No holiday RTO allowed for this role.
• Scrubs are provided.

Scheduling:

• 40 hours per week, 8-hour day shifts from 07:30 to 16:00.
• Shift assignments based on unit needs.
• Contract duration typically 13-20 weeks.
• Call schedule is rotated equitably among staff to meet departmental needs.
