We are looking for an Accountant to join an agriculture-focused organization in Amarillo, Texas on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent position. This role supports core accounting activities tied to livestock purchases, payments, reporting, and reconciliations while working closely with operations and finance teams. The ideal candidate brings strong accuracy, sound organizational skills, and the ability to manage daily transactional work alongside monthly accounting responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee accounting activity related to cattle inventory, including subledger entries and transaction support.
• Compile supporting documentation for livestock purchases and prepare invoices for processing.
• Review purchase documents for accuracy and confirm invoice details before payment is issued.
• Execute disbursements through multiple payment methods, including checks, drafts, and wire transfers.
• Partner with accounting leadership to reconcile and clear outstanding drafts and checks on a daily basis.
• Complete contract closeout tasks in the cattle procurement system and ensure records are properly finalized.
• Conduct recurring lien searches for suppliers and maintain compliance-related documentation.
• Contribute to month-end close by preparing account analysis, balancing assigned general ledger accounts, and supporting cattle-related accounting entries.
• Maintain organized electronic and physical records for contracts, tickets, and transaction support, and assist with audit documentation and special projects.
• Prepare scheduled operational and financial reporting for management and provide cross-functional support to both procurement and accounting teams as needed.• High school diploma required; additional education in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Prior experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar financial support role is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word with the ability to manage detailed financial records accurately.
• Familiarity with accounts payable, reconciliations, general ledger activity, and invoice processing.
• Experience with inventory-related accounting or agricultural, cattle, or feedyard operations is helpful.
• Strong attention to detail, dependable organizational habits, and a commitment to accuracy in transactional work.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently while coordinating with multiple departments.
