Job Summary: Responsible for Physical Therapy management of members under the direction and supervision of the Rehabilitation Manager. This position consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non‑compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures. In addition, regional leaders are accountable for communication, implementation, enforcement, monitoring and oversight of compliance policies and practices in their departments. The role consistently demonstrates service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission, and departmental initiatives. It also consistently demonstrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to members, purchasers, contracted providers and vendors. Essential Responsibilities: Test and evaluate member impairments, functional limitations, participation barriers, and disabilities to ensure proper treatment using various tests and procedures. Plan therapy programs, establish treatment goals, and administer treatment to improve or remove impairments, minimize functional limitations, provide full participation in activities of daily living, and reduce disability. Provide direct member care through in‑person, telephonic, and/or video‑based services. Include members, families, and caregivers in goal setting and obtain informed consent as necessary. Provide members, families, and caregivers with treatment plans and instructions for home exercise programs. Upgrade treatment plans and goals as members progress. Regularly assess clinical signs and symptoms to determine effectiveness of treatment, progress toward goals, and the need to modify goals and treatment. Discharge members from Physical Therapy when maximum benefit has been achieved. Provide accurate and timely documentation of Physical Therapy member management. Supervise care delivered by PTAs (Physical Therapist Assistants) as per jurisdiction requirements. Maintain appropriate medical record documentation for services and care communications. Consult with medical providers regarding member evaluation, treatment, care plan updates, and discharge. Review member records for diagnosis, past medical history, precautions, and contraindications. Maintain compliance with company, state, and regulatory documentation. Establish a safe work environment. Maintain clinical competency and ethical standards as outlined by the APTA guidelines. Maintain departmental supplies, equipment, and apparatus in clean, safe, and functional condition. Direct and instruct support personnel in routine procedures as requested. Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relations with the public, members, and other personnel. Provide triage Physical Therapy services via in‑person, phone, or video means. Deliver input and assistance to Lead Therapists and Rehabilitation Managers in developing new classes, services, education, and related materials. Participate in volunteer, student, or staff mentorship and clinical education activities. Provide coverage as needed in other facilities within the region if appropriate. Perform other related duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum three (3) years of full‑time practice as a licensed Physical Therapist in a clinical setting. Education Graduate of an accredited physical therapy curriculum for a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree with certification in physical therapy or a foreign‑trained equivalent. License, Certification, Registration Credentials from the primary work state are required at hire: Physical Therapist License (Maryland) and Physical Therapist License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire. Additional credentials from secondary work states are required post‑hire: Physical Therapy Direct Access Certification (Virginia) and Physical Therapist License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire. Alternatively, a Compact License: Physical Therapist within 6 months of hire. National Provider Identifier. Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association. PECOS Enrollment within 1 month of hire. Additional Requirements: Actively pursue and engage in at least one of the following for continued education or clinical experience to gain or enhance clinical expertise: a postgraduate degree with a specialty focus; expertise in a clinical subject matter in high demand or with limited resources; leadership skills in projects, teaching, or clinical instruction; and evidence of involvement in staff development or mentoring. Preferred Qualifications: Teach physical therapy–related health education classes. Experience in pelvic health. Involved in supervision and orientation of volunteers in the Physical Therapy Department. Participate in community activities and member education at least twice per year, including teaching health education classes, attending medical center functions, and community health fairs.
