Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department Profession: RN Specialty: RN - ER Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Variable Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience preferred in an acute care facility License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Must-Have: EPIC experience Description: Centered in the heart of the community, this facility has been a leading healthcare provider since 1907. The organization provides comprehensive healthcare services including emergency department care, physician clinics, home care services, and cancer care. The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for a group of patients during a designated shift. The nurse prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process that aligns with the medical plan of care. Collaboration with physicians and other healthcare team members is essential to coordinate patient care. The nurse incorporates teaching and discharge planning needs in the overall care plan. Delegating certain aspects of patient care to nursing staff is required based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice. This position is represented by a nursing association. Job Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Acute care facility experience is preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required at time of hire. The nurse must demonstrate competency in Dysrhythmia during orientation for all departments, except Obstetrics and NICU. Completion of Critical Care Course within one year of hire is required for those in critical care units. Competency in IV Sedation within six months of hire is required. AHA-PALS certification is required at the time of hire. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification is required within one year of hire. Essential Functions: Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients and implement individualized care plans. Modifies plans as necessary and considers the age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients. Collaborates with other disciplines to formulate the plan of care for assigned patients. Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases to the delivery of care. Provides patient and family education to promote compliance and cooperation. Responds to emergency situations following established protocols and maintains calmness. Oversees the delivery of patient care and corrects errors to ensure safety and well-being. Documents assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided accurately. Demonstrates safe use of equipment and performs emergency procedures as needed. Maintains responsibility for clinical decision-making and the delivery of patient care. Acts as a patient advocate ensuring rights are preserved. Practices registered nursing according to the Nurse Practice Act of the state. Utilizes effective communication skills with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
