Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-volume, fast-paced Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and familiarity with settings delivering more than 300 births per month.

Details

• Hospital-based Labor & Delivery unit with an obstetrical triage area and a high-risk antepartum unit (Special Maternity Care)
• Patient population includes obstetrical patients from 16 weeks gestation and above, including high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care; high-risk patients under 16 weeks are also cared for on the high-risk maternity unit
• Procedures performed include scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, rescue cervical cerclage, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, medication administration, and OCT
• Patient ratio is 2:1; unit averages approximately 20 births per 24 hours, 30–40 admissions per day, and 40 visits per day across 20 rooms
• Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence on this unit
• EMR: Epic (experience required); also uses Pyxis
• 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15 (3x12 schedule)
• Every other weekend required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Float required as needed within and near the facility, including to the high-risk OB unit
• No on-call requirement
• Contract lengths of 13–26 weeks are accepted

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required; 3 years preferred
• Experience in a high-volume setting with more than 300 births per month required
• Required certifications: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP; C-EFM accepted in lieu of AWHONN; AWHONN Advanced preferred
• Required skills: circulating for C-sections, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, emergency care, infant/neonatal arrest, and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, obstetrical triage, pain assessment and management, antepartum care, and isolation precautions/PPE

Additional Information

• This is an extremely fast-paced, high-acuity unit — workload and volume may be greater than what many nurses encounter in typical L&D settings
• First-time travelers are accepted, but must have experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting
• Orientation is conducted weekly and totals 24 hours; pre-start online modules (approximately 8–10 hours) must be completed prior to the start date and annually thereafter
• Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved automatically, excluding holidays; no additional RTO can be requested after signing
• Candidates who have previously worked at this health system or its affiliated network as permanent, PRN, or EP staff must wait 12 months before applying
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years are required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
• Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but will be placed at a different pay rate
• Travel pairs are permitted, provided they are assigned to different units and have their own transportation
• Blue scrubs are provided by the facility
