Mechanical Engineer

Summary of Position: The Mechanical Engineer (ME) performs mechanical engineering functions for nextScan and ST Imaging encompassing R&D, R&D products transitioning to production, and production products. This role supports both pre- and post-sales support and any escalation of support, service, and manufacturing issues.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Engineering Functions
• System architecture, design, review, & implementation
• Product design & implementation
• Mechanical component & materials selection
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) considerations
• Design for Service (DFS) considerations
• Work with engineering consultants, when appropriate
• Assist Production Engineering Manager with certifications, e.g. UL, Energy Star
• Create and update SolidWorks drawings and maintain in PDM
• Coordinate with manufacturing and finance for vendor and part selections
• Assist Production Manager with vendor management
• Initiate, review, and approve engineering change notifications (ECN) and product change notifications (PCN)
• Manufacturing Focus
• Willingness to work on the manufacturing floor to assist production, returns analysis, and other interactions to drive ongoing quality & reliability efforts
• Assist with in-house 3D printing efforts
• Foster continuous feedback from manufacturing and support for continuous improvement
• Intellectual Property (IP)
• Develop products, methods, or other technology that is protectable as a patent, trade secret, or other protectable category
• Identify technology that may be protectable as a patent, trade secret, or other protectable category
• Complete patent disclosures
• Participate in the IP protection process as required
• Other Support, as necessary
• Support sales, marketing, support & service, and manufacturing as a technical resource

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required
• Required technological skillset: SolidWorks
• Preferred technological skillset: Machining experience, Mechanical design and review, Optical and imaging expertise, Design for Manufacturability, MRP Concepts and Techniques, PDM and NetSuite

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements of the Job:

• Requires standing and walking, using hands from fingers and feet Up to 75% of the time
• Requires sitting, talking and hearing Up to 75% of the time
• Requires close and color vision
• Requires out-of-town travel Up to 6 times per year
• Work is performed in a controlled office and manufacturing environment but may be required to visit customers and vendors in uncontrolled environments.
