Job Summary The Wainger Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and innovative Senior Scientist to lead high-impact translational research at the intersection of neurodegenerative diseases, stem cell biology, functional genomics, and computational biology. The successful candidate will leverage human postmortem tissue analyses, patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) neuron models, and advanced bioinformatics/multi-omic pipelines to systematically discover, prioritize, validate, and develop novel therapeutic targets. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to work within a deeply translational environment closely aligned with the Healey Center for ALS at MGH, Broad Institute, and Harvard Medical School. Independently carries out a broad range of technically advanced research activities and procedures; conceives of and designs experiments, evaluates conclusions, and has complete latitude to modify or devise methods and techniques as necessary to achieve desired results; may supervise technical and administrative elements of research unit. Essential Functions Function as a skilled scientific specialist for the research unit or for a specific research project. Conducts broad range of experiments or computational analyses involving advanced technology/strategies; conceives of the objective of research studies and designs experimental protocols/computational analyses to achieve the objectives; generates, analyzes and evaluates experimental data; interprets the results of experiments/computational analyses. Writes and edits material for publication; may present papers or appear as principal or secondary author in publications. Provides direct supervision to technical and support personnel as assigned. Provides instruction in laboratory or computational techniques and methodology to students and postdoctoral fellows. Qualifications Education Doctorate Related Field of Study required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Experience Experience in an academic or laboratory research setting 5-7 years required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in supply chain and vendor management. Ability to identify problems and troubleshoot solutions. Well-versed in laboratory standards and practices. Good organizational skills, detail-oriented. Sound degree of computer literacy. Ability to methodically record data. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Broad knowledge of scientific principles, biological structures, and laboratory techniques.
