Educational Interpreter (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) San Diego Unified School District Deaf & Hard of Hearing Department - San Diego, California Job Description San Diego Unified School District, the second largest district in California and one of the largest urban school districts in the United States, is looking for professionals who care deeply for students and are committed to the communities in which they serve. Basic Function & Responsibilities The Educational Interpreter will facilitate communication between hearing students, students who are deaf and hard of hearing, parents, and others by providing comprehensive manual and/or oral interpreting services in academic or non-academic/technical classes or situations, including general academic subjects such as English, history, and basic mathematics. The interpreter will also provide additional support for students with special needs. Vacancy / Position Specifics Working Location: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department, Madison High School, 4833 Doliva Drive, San Diego, CA 92117 (Area C) Work Schedule: 10 months per year / 32.5 hours per week Salary: Paraeducator Salary Schedule, Grade 053 (approx. $37.99 to $47.28 per hour) Positions 20 hours per week or greater qualify for district-paid health and wellness benefits for the employee and eligible dependents. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of 24 units of college or university coursework related to the assignment and three years of paid experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing using manual communication. Additional training and/or experience of acceptable level may substitute for the education requirement. Certifications: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) – CI or CT, or National Interpreter Certification (NIC); or Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Level 4.0; or National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Level 4.0.
