Description: Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions the patient for the procedure. Acts as a clinical coordinator for imaging students. Fills out student rotation evaluations honestly and ethically. Ability to provide constructive criticism to students during their rotation. Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique so that the patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor or service provider to ensure timely correction. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy and department schedule. Ability to operate all aspects of the system and radiographic equipment in a safe and competent manner, ensuring that equipment is not abused and is left in good working order. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media, ensuring no patient condition deteriorates due to errors or poor technique. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and utilizes right and left markers appropriately. Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment, including restocking the crash cart. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations where physician intervention is needed. Verifies two unique patient identifiers and the correct clinical order prior to performing a procedure in accordance with policy. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patients' ages. Organizes schedule and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Uses critical thinking skills and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out processes when appropriate. Demonstrates pre-and post-procedural care and prepares patients for procedures. Maintains competency with venipuncture, where applicable. Patiently explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Addresses patients' questions and concerns satisfactorily and notifies physicians when necessary. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures. Completes required documentation accurately and legibly. Checks email each day scheduled to work and follows through with assignments. Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education independently. Consistently produces high-quality images, ensuring appropriate collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration, and positioning. Ensures equipment is fully operational prior to use by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies. Sends all studies to PACS and prints CDs as necessary, ensuring all exams are complete and accurately labeled. Transmits studies after hours as needed. Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Transports and positions patients safely during procedures. Performs patient charging activities on the day services are rendered. Applies shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices as necessary. Willingly provides knowledge and assistance to others upon request. Performs routine clerical and support duties as warranted to ensure quality of services. Keeps supervisors informed on responsibilities and notifies them promptly of any issues. Maintains individual productivity rates in line with co-workers. Meets Joint Commission and regulatory agency standards. Ability to transfer and retrieve images on the PACS system. Takes call when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
