Factory Quality Engineer

Operations Quality has an opening for a Factory Quality Engineer who will interface with the factory teams supporting production, first article inspections, creating/maintaining work/inspection instructions, and preparation for audits.

The position is based in Huntsville, AL and requires onsite presence. The quality engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Verify product and process compliance with respect to contractual, technical, industry, AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and internal policies
• Regularly generate and publish Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) metrics
• Facilitate and lead cross-functional team in failure analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including identifying non-conformances, providing solutions, tracking issues to closure and leading Corrective Action Boards (CAB)
• Ensure identification, physical control, and disposition of non-conforming material and facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) when necessary
• Support work instruction development and maintenance activities by reviewing work instructions, test instructions, auditing processes, and assuring configuration management
• Development and maintenance of inspection instructions, ensuring inspection instructions meet the technical data package requirements and meet production needs
• Regularly interface with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), Missile Defense Agency(MDA), and Navy Representatives
• Daily status meetings with the factory support, factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders to manage issues
• Conduct weekly meetings to help reduce cost of poor quality and facilitate timely red rack dispositions

Qualifications you must have:

• Requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and two (2) years of experience in related Quality, Operations, Engineering or related discipline
• Experience in supporting design and/or manufacturing process
• Manufacturing process experience (assembly, inspection, test)
• Experience with engineering drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control
• The ability to obtain and maintain an US security clearance prior to the start date (U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance)
• The ability to obtain and maintain an ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) clearance

Qualifications we value:

• Existing DoD Secret Clearance
• Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management System
• Experience with AS9145 - Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
• Strong interpersonal skills with experience in negotiating, having difficult conversations, and ability to work well with factory management, hourly employees, government partners (DCMA, MDA, Navy, etc.) and internal stakeholders
• Experience in leading cross-functional teams in auditing process and product/process improvements in the factory or at suppliers
• Experience with Root Cause Analysis Tools- Sologic, Etq, and 5 Whys
• Six Sigma or ASQ Certification
• Data analysis; development and usage of actionable metrics
