On-Call HVAC Technician - 4/10 Schedule (Public Sector)

Job Title HVAC Technician (Air Conditioning Mechanic) – Norwest Region Job Overview The County of Riverside Facilities Management Department is seeking an HVAC Technician (Air Conditioning Mechanic) for the Norwest region. The selected candidate will report to the 3rd Street Maintenance Shop in Riverside and will travel to multiple facilities throughout Riverside County, including jail premises where contact with inmates may occur. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair HVAC systems, including heating furnaces, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and refrigeration equipment. Respond to gas or refrigerant emergencies. Perform routine maintenance and install new air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems. Read blueprints, troubleshoot controls, and ensure equipment operates efficiently. Generate purchase requisitions, maintain electronic records, and document inspections and work performed. Communicate with customers, vendors, and facility staff; escort visitors in and out of facilities. Determine required parts and equipment, prepare job estimates, and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements Minimum four years of journey-level experience working with commercial or public‑sector HVAC systems, including maintenance, repair, and installation. Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) is highly desirable. A Universal EPA Technician Certificate under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act is required at the time of application. Valid California driver’s license Class C. Successful background check, including a criminal background investigation and drug/alcohol screening. Ability to pass a physical examination and a hands‑on examination during the interview process. Physical capability to kneel, stand, walk, and lift heavy materials; ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces. Schedule and Benefits

• 4/10 schedule, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with every Monday off.
• Mandatory overtime and participation in a 24/7 standby on‑call rotation, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call‑outs.
• Standby pay and overtime compensation for eligible hours in accordance with county policies.
• Uniforms are provided.
• A successful Security Clearance conducted by the Sheriff's Department is required.

Licensing and Certification Completion of a recognized air conditioning or refrigeration apprenticeship training program, or four years of increasingly responsible experience in installing and repairing HVAC equipment, may satisfy the required experience. Physical and Environmental Considerations Extended periods of kneeling, bending, crouching, jogging on uneven terrain, and lifting heavy equipment are required. The position may expose the technician to inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
